I contacted Opt Lasers about getting just that fantastic mini mount with mirrors. They said they would send me one for about $200

I'm basing this build idea on perceived brightness.

Osram PL520B 520nm max pot set to 275ma for 120mw green
Oclaro HL63193MG 638nm max pot set to 1.2a for 1050mw red
M140 445nm max pot set to 1a for 1100mw blue

Where I am stuck are drivers.

In the host I want to run each diode on a dedicated circuit with its own switch and analog slider.

What available drivers (preferably from forum members) would be suitable for this project?

I imagine you're aware, but that's very blue/red heavy. Not sure what driver would do ... BlackBuck current doesn't go low enough for the green. How much are you wanting to spend on drivers? Can try out cheap China drivers or spend ~$60 on a good analogue driver (Opt Lasers have some)...

On all the calculators I used it never took much green to match the red and blue.

I like the NUGM02

I might use that for a watt of each and use a 3 position switch on the green. Off, 0-10% (low amp driver) and 0-100% (high amp driver)

I'd be more likely to buy Opt components than cheep china stuff.

I'm thinking a 2x26650 light could be converted to hold 3 battery tubes each holding 2x10440s.

Will need to see if I can find my copy of chroma, will put your numbers in and post results if I find it... Probably on the file server, which is currently off, really need to get my ass in gear and do some maintenance on that stuff.

What diachi says--way too little green for a 1W + of red and blue.

LPF member DTR sells all those diodes and drivers for them---why not e-mail him and ask him which way to go.

An excellent RGB mdule with good proportions of each and excellen alignment of all three is the Opt Lasers mini RGB modules--see: 400mW micro RGB laser module - Opt Lasers see the results here: http://laserpointerforums.com/f44/arctic-s-open-source-rgb-laser-host-99595.html

I source as many parts as I can through DTR, none of the drivers (except the blackbuck) offer an external pot adjustment. This is a feature I'm really hoping to have for each diode.

The green (assuming I go with 1 watt instead of just 120mw) may need 2 drivers and a 3 position switch (off, driver 1, driver 2) One would run the diode at about 0-10% (or so) max for balanced mixing with the red and blue. The other would run the diode right up to the 1 watt max.

I'm planning on using the mount Opt Lasers is using on that unit. They just don't offer the diodes I want.

Also, a thing to consider: a single mode green paired with a multimode red and a multimode blue... beam specs may be underwhelming.

I'm not too worried about beam specs.

I want to see the colors diverge as you go further from the host. For my uses this is a non issue.

This is also an excuse for combing a "1 watt of each" collection into 1 unit and adding the ability to mix them.

I'll probably use a NUGM02 for one watt of each color.

It will be interesting to see what chroma says.

Fired up the file server, got Chroma installed.

Here's the output for your numbers - very red/blue heavy:

If anyone wants to download a copy I have it on my FTP server.

Address: genis dot ca
(You can enter ftp://[address] in most web browsers as well as windows explorer, no need to download an FTP client).
Port: 21 (default)
User: lpf
Password: pass4lpf

Download "cChroma_pkg.exe" and run that, it'll extract the required files. Once extracted run "MCRInstaller.exe" and then you should be able to run "Chroma.exe".

It won't be the fastest, I set the upload limit to 200KB/s so as not to saturate my upload, the speed ratios here are terrible, Upload/Download is 5/100 .

Let me know if you have any troubles!

Installed

the v79 folder does not have a "Chroma.exe" file

When to the help file and there is a bunch of over garbage about programming in dos commands.

Got a screenshot of what it extracted? What OS are you on? I don't get a V79 folder...? Just the files I described (+readme etc), the readme really just talks about Matlab. After extracting it should run the Matlab installer automatically, then you can run Chroma... At least that's how it should work.

I've been looking for that Chroma program, gimmie!

Been meaning to boot up the file server and get that FTP set up for folk, took a while to get around to it...

Manage to get it working OK?

I hit the exe file, a dos style screen flashes for a split second and that's it.

Wonder if Matlab perhaps didn't install correctly...? Try running Chroma.exe in compatibility mode for Windows 7. Right click Chroma.exe, select properties, go to the compatibility tab and set the options like this:

Let me know if that doesn't work, I'll try troubleshooting it on one of my Windows 10 machines later if you're still encountering issues.

It's not working for me that way with win10 education edition. Windows recommends me running it as vista but no luck. I'll continue trying things to get it to run (short of starting up a windows 7 VM)
