Hey all,
So i bought an off-brand 1w laser driver on ebay a while ago, and i installed it wired everything up, and used 2 18650 Rechargable batteried. The batteries are fully charged, but when i use my laser it puts full power out for about 4-6 seconds then gets less and less bright until you can barely see it then just sits there, and i feel the driver and it is very hot....anyone have any suggestions or answers????

Can you share the link where you got it from. Or post a pictures of the driver.

Either the driver is Bad or its a linear driver and needs to be heat sinked.

We have pretty much seen every laser driver out there or at least the most common ones like on ebay etc so if you take a pictures or show link of the driver it will be pretty easy for us to find out whats going on.:)

How did you set the currant on the driver.?

You dint mention anything about that.

Do you know what you are driving it at.?

Sound like its a bad driver or you have the driver set in very high currant and requires a heatsink.

Yes im using a 445nm blue laser diode. And to set the output, i swap out the diode for 6 1N5404 diodes and a 1Ohm 10W resistor, and measure the Millivolts across the resistor, and i got around 850-900 mV.

Is it possible to take a picture of your connections.?

This is the power in on the right, and the left is the + laser diode out

Well your connection look Good.! Nothing wrong there.

However Reading back a little i see you said you used 6 diodes to set the currant.

You should be using 4 for 445nm.

Some drivers it matter how many diodes you are using as load.!

I would disconnect your diode and without adj the pot hook it back up to you test load and see where the driver is set too using 4 diodes as a load.

At 900mA this driver should only be getting warm and no where near hot.

I would also continue to do all the rest of the testing on the test load not with the diode.!

You wont loose your diode that way.!
