Default 18650 vs CR123A ?

ok so im buying a 200mW 405 laser and it says that i have two options to power it : 2 CR123A batteries or a single 18650 battery .... my question is which one is going to deliver the most power ? also do you guys recommend a rechargeable battery? i wont ask , which one lasts longer cause that depends on the mHa ^_^ thanks

THIS IS THE RIGHT SESSION !!!

please help !! i found this one on ebay ! should i buy it ? is it good ? i did a bit of research and it seem that the sanyo are the most preferable ones ...

you would be required to use 2x cr132a (aka 16340) because one 18650 would not give enough voltage to the diode UNLESS you use a boost driver. definitely go rechargeable because even though its a little more expensive up front, compare the cost of 500+ charges (pennies in electricity) to 500+ new batteries (little more than a buck a piece i think)

i use these and they work perfectly fine in my ~1w 445nm http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o00_s00_i00

ok thanks for your reply !! i will check them out !! but a 18650 battery will give me more run time right ?? AND what if i burn the diode because of to much voltage !! ): NOOO!

yes an 18650 will give much longer run time (those 16340s are 880mah and i have 18650s that are 3000mah) but the problem is that unless you have some sort of extension device or it is regulated by a boost drive instead of a linear or buck you wont be able to fit enough into the host to provide enough voltage to power the diode.

that is why the driver is there between the batteries and the diode, to protect it and give it a smooth regular current. any driver for 405nm/445nm/450nm will have a max voltage of at least 8.4v (UNLESS it is a boost drive, since theyre made to boost the voltage from one cell so you only need one), usually higher, since 3.6v cells can output up to 4.2v on a max charge. for example the xdrive v6 has a voltage range of 5.6v-16v meaning it can be powered from 2-4x cells at 3.6v or 2-3x cells at 4.2v (4x at 4.2v would go slightly over at 16.8v, but that would damage the driver not the diode)

make sure you check with the specs from wherever youre getting it from first though because they could recommend something else but even so you cant go wrong with 16340s especially at like $15 for 4 and a charger
