I recently got an ultrafire XL-49 to have a cheap larger reflector light to hack with. Just dropped in one of my better petrol'd xp-es, not bad for a plastic reflector! Might have to have a look around to see if I have any XP-C to play with.

Comes with a reflector centering ring that fits xp packages, but mine was drilled off-center.

No info about the driver, didn't mod that yet, so I left it pressed into pill.

glass lens is held in by the toothed retaining ring, and not very well, it feels like the threads aren't quite the same.

Head has long spring that contacts a cup shaped brass contact in the switch assembly.

Switch boot is that smooth sticky soft rubber. Clicky is pretty easy.

Other than the rough threads and off-center reflector centering ring, this has been a suitable hack host.

At the moment I have nothing special in the way of torches/flashlights. I have two generic 9 LED 3AAA torches, one UV and one regular light. Just ordered an Ultrafire Cree Q5 for under 3 quid (why not, and it runs on a single AA) and of course a Maglite MiniMag AA - because I love the candle function.

I'm not a light afficionado and they don't really interest me as much as laser, so please don't laugh at me buying an ultrafire (hey I did not buy their batteries)

No point in buying a $100 flashlight and then finding out it's too bright, or it has too many features, or that you might not use it $100 worth.

Whats in the boxes?

Add up the $$$$ in those photos

Unveiled :D (not shown is the 7G5CS aspheric head and various cheaper lights) CRAP my EDC was left out L3 Illumination L10

Did you guess: $120, $80, $215, $165, $18, $56, and $125 for a grand total of $779  PLUS all the lights are loaded with cells (Panny 3400s in the Mvn, K40vn, Barracuda. Sanyo 18650s in the Crelant and C8. MKNE in the SL3, King Kong in the Xvn. That's a bunch of money in cells too  Now that I think of it, I have cells for EVERY flashlight and EVERY laser I own, PLUS extras

Vinh collection (missing the P25vn)

Moonlight (didnt have time to mess with the camera settings to get the perfect photo)

Got my Fandyfire UV-S5 from fasttech (skyray king clone)

I was going to make it into a laser but I can screw open the bezel. The alternate model showed a unscreweable bezel but I went with the original model but its like glued or something. What a waste auggg.

Well that's what I have.

Any way to unscrew it? Anyone have experience?

Yup, they are REALLY tough to get unscrewed but how I got mine off (prior to selling it) was took a thick ruler, place the light tailcap down, put the ruler across the bezel and turn while pressing down and holding the light. Might need two people (one to hold light, one to push down on the bezel and turn the ruler). You will most likely destroy or tear the ruler up but thats how I got mine off (probably not the same as yours but its not glued, its just super tight and the aggressive style to the bezel tends to cut your hands up so people give up

See, there is a trick to the trade ;)

Ummmm reflector is a little tougher. Iirc there are one of a few possibilities; 1) it will pop right out if you place a towel down and lightly smack it output side down 2) you need to remove the driver and its screwed in from behind 3) its glued in and is a PITA

EDIT: do you have a link to which light you bought. There are literally 100+ variations of this light

Sure: $49.17 FandyFire UV-S5 Cree XM-L T6 3000LM Flashlight (4 x 18650) - 3-LED / 3-Mode at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

I got it before Christmas before the price went up...
It took me while to get the PITA acronym. :)
