Don't carry the batteries loose inside your carry on or your luggage, that is being viewed as a no no now, they must either be in the device, or in a container designed to hold THAT battery.

Well, last year I got myself a 2W 445nm and took it outside with a friend. Right at that moment police were checking highways and several other roads near me for people speeding, which of course I didn't know about. Then when we we're walking home, I turned the laser back on for a moment, and right at that moment a police car passed by and saw the beam. It really was a coincidence as they told me then didn't spot it until they were near me. So, they asked me to come to their car and show me what I had. Luckily I thought of unfocusing the laser so much, that it was more like a bright blue flashlight rather than a laser. The policemen we're quite damn stupid though, and they would've likely blinded themselves if I hadn't unfocused it. He pointed it on his highly reflective car and even on his pants. If I had unfocused it the other way around, then he would've likely burned a hole in his pants.

After that they asked me where I got it from, how much it had cost me and why I brought safety glasses with me. I told them I got them from some legally registered Dutch site for about 40$, safety goggles included. Luckily they didn't know shit about it, cause just the safety glasses alone we're already over 80$.

After telling some more complete bullshit they decided to let me go on condition that I wouldn't use it outside anymore. They did want my phone number in case they found out it was illegal after all, but in that case I would've told them I'd had sold it already.

So yeah, that was about it. Nowadays I rarely take my lasers outside, I just use them to point from outside my window at midnight or later. Even if they would notice the beam coming from my house, then can't accuse me of anything unless they search my house. Which isn't gonna happen anyways.

I don't think that police officer had the authority to tell you not to use it outside, yea, not to distract drivers on the road or point it at people, but to tell you you can't use it outside doesn't have any basis in law, unless you were too close to an airport.

Well, our law says we cannot own anything higher than a class IIIB laser. And anything above class IIIR can officially not be sold to consumers. However, there are many different websites, even based in our country, sell >100mW lasers. It are mostly cheap shitty chinese lasers, but as you know, these cheap lasers tend to surpass class IV already with their 445nm's. I believe using anything over class II is illegal to be used outside, but it's rather hard to find accurate information on what's allowed and what's not.

For myself, I honestly don't give a damn what our law says about lasers. I enjoy it as a hobby, and whether something being legal or not it won't keep me from doing what I enjoy most. Other than that I just hope that there will be better security to avoid cheap 301's from flooding into the country. People with those lasers usually think pointing it directly into your eye won't do any harm (sadly have had to experience a guy like that).

There is a limit to the amount of power we can point into the sky with a visible laser for private citizens? Aside from the regulatory laws for the sale of the laser itself? I don't think there is any law against owning or building your own at any power level, just the sale is regulated.

Not sure on that one. All I know is that the laws here are quite different from the US.

Eh, the way I see the law, at least for many of them, is to be careful not to get caught. That alone probably fulfills the intent of the law so we don't do something stupid with our lasers and hurt or harass someone. Live by that and you are probably going to avoid problems with the law.

By the way, since you brought up a TK-75, I have one and used it soon after I got it for a test and it withheld under the water in a hot-tub for 10 minutes fine on strobe Man was I nervous when I tested it but I remember reading a story about someone soon after they came out who torture tested his way worse than me including dragging it a long way behind his truck. Still have mine in perfect condition just sitting on a shelf with some other units partially unscrewed as it has a small draw. Buying a few powerful (at the time) flashlights is what got me here like lots of others.
Wonder if anyone has ever done a survey on how we all got here before?
