I am glad to announce this project as an upgrade to my previous project http://laserpointerforums.com/f66/4800-lumen-project-69095.html

I got a LED build sold so now its time to shift gears with the help of this newfound funding.. This one is going to be a BEAST :D

The new new build will include the same body, but significantly updated internals:

100W 8000 Lumen 20.000K LED emitter
Boost converter -> 32 Volts (will work with batteries 10-30V)
Projector lens!

I am currently waiting for the parts to arrive in the mail.

Hey ,


What are you gona use as cooling , i have a few 8800 Lumen Leds , and it takes 2 fans at full speed to keep a small ish heat sink at 35C with 1 led running at 30v @ 2.9 Amps , What type of lense are you using / going to use to focuse the beam from the led ?

Ever played wiht a giant fresnel?

I have once befor , never did a great job of focusing the light i got kind of a beam but close to the led it was usless , probably need a lense on led befor fresnel to collect/focuse more of the light ?

I haven't played with one in a while, I was just curious if you could get a relatively well-collimated beam out of it.

Vari, what part of the world are you located in? I saw last time you used an intel aluminum extruded cooler. Still using that same cooler?

Maybe i was not clear with my wording. I will use the same body, same fans and same heatsink. Just swap out the two leds and their regulators for a led, boost converter and a regulator.

It will get crowded in there, but there should be clearance of few mm's :san:

The lens is a purposely built one for 30-100W led emitters.

Today the 100W 8000 Lumen 20000K LED emitter and the boost converter arrived in the mail. The projector lens should arrive in a few days.

I took the flashlight apart and started the work on fitting the boost converter and current regulator in the body. The current regulator is the same LM350k based as in the last build, but this time regulated to 3,09A. There won’t be much space left once everything is in, but i am confident everything will fit. The current regulator fitted over the battery, the boost converter in front of it. I will resume work once the projector lens arrives.

20,000K cool white? Wouldn't that be like a deep blue? Interesting build though!

jufran88: yes it is a very bluish white. Not quite like metal halide lamps, but exotic nonetheless :=



I did not manage to wait for the projector lens to arrive, so i decided to finish it up apart form that today.

One thing i must mention here at this forum, since there are probably experts who would point it out if not.

I screwed up the fan controlling bad time. The idea of the boost converter was to allow bigger LEDs and to make the flashlight input independent. Now this is not the case since the fans are directly fed at 11.1V from my battery of choice.

So the very next task will be to rip up those tediously sealed connections and decouple the fans from the battery totally, and drive them through the boost converter through a zener-diode setup or similar.:eek:

Hey,

Where did you get that boost driver? I've been looking for one like that for a while. I have one of the 100W emitters that I'd love to put to use.

Hello rhd!

I mentioned it in my blog, i won the auction at ebay for four boost converters for the price of one. It is not a driver, so there is no current regulation. I don't know if step-up models ususally have current regulation, step-down ones usually have. The listing is not there anymore, but keep your eyes open for further gems like this one :)
