24W HID flashlight question

So i purchased a 24W HID flashlight today. I wanted it for when i go on vacation and camping. Also there seems to be more and more foxes and coyotes walking around outside my work. I always walk around at night to make sure everything is ok since i work all night. Last pair of coyotes didnt seem scared of me, maybe a bright freaking light beam will freak them out enough:thinking: Anyways I was wondering, is this sucker going to be too bright for crab hunting on the beach? Its suppose to be rated at 2000 lumens.

Hmm, I have the 75W HID from eBay also, and it is indeed stupid bright. It is supposedly rated at 7800lm, though I'd probably say 6000lm or so would be more realistic.

I'm not sure what crab hunting requires, as I've never done it before, but I'd say the coyotes would be scared of it. Just make sure you test from a distance first, so they don't run up to you and maul you or something if they're actually attracted to it :p

I bought this 35W HID from walmart and swapped out the the 6500K bulb for an 8000K and its insane.
I don't know that it will scare off a coyote though. (Im thinking dear in the headlights) might want to pack some pepper spray or an air horn that might scare them.
I dont know what crab hunting requires but I took mine camping and it made people mad in nearby parks.

I have a 35w hid and coyotes around here just stop and look at them like led said. I have used my hid for crab hunting but it tends to get hot and battery life isn't that great but its definitely bright enough. We have always found that the brighter the lights are the better it works out we usually use 50w or 100w halogens or more recently we have been using raccoon lights similar to these which free up both you hands if your using nets.

Hmm, maybe I'll stick with my trustfire "3800" lumen led light for crab hunting. I think it's funny they say it's 3800 lumens when it's really 1500...

Got my flashlight today, sucker is BRIGHT. Gotta love the chinese/english translations they give in the owners manual... "The light brightness of HID flashlights is the 4 times the car light, the length can reach 1500meters."

Ya thats the one i got. Its still pretty bright though. I compared them while my batteries lasted and the 24W wasnt too much brighter. For the price you cant beat it honestly. Im getting pics ready now. Nothing outside just yet though. Whenever my battery charger shows up from DX that i ordered last month, I can finally use my Trustfire again.

Great discovery. New frontiers in science are made daily. ^^
Even the biological ones.
