I'm curious to see what the actual difference is - in the video they speak of 'tweaked the wavelength of the laser', which makes me wonder if it will be somewhat longer than 445 (either different production or just binned).

On the other hand, i guess we shouldn't get over-excited about these - the difference in the diodes from the A130 and A140 seems to be marginal at best.

Well has anyone been able to get 1.8-2W out of a 130? From what I have seen the 130's pull much higher voltage for the same output.

Hopefully the tweak is closer to the 500 range than the 400 range (Crosses fingers) Probably will only be 445 +- a bit...

A little off-topic but why are there no other projectors with diodes in them?

Everone pay attention to this post !

C@sio could be found to be negligent in not putting safeguards to prevent people from obtaining dangerous parts. These are not flashlight, these are Class 4 laser diodes. It's like someone building a projector that contains an explosive or radioactive part that could be used for dangerous purposes. Sure, "common sense" dictates that the original manufacturer should not be responsible for how their machine is used outside its original intention, but in today's lawsuit-happy world, the fact that someone can power up their projector and blast 24W of laser light with virtually no effort would easily support the case that C@sio did not at least make it difficult for these diodes to be removed and used for alternative purposes.

C@sio is covering their butt; don't blame them for that. The better their butt is covered, the greater chance that these kinds of products will stay available. Also don't be so arrogant to believe that C@sio cares about sales or should feel "glad" to sell to laser enthusiasts. Projector-purchasing, part-scavenging laser enthusiasts represent an insignificant market segment. So have a little appreciation for the fact that you have the privilege of purchasing a formerly cheap $500 laser diode for one tenth the price because C@sio invested money to make it happen.

This is somewhat off-topic, but would a (hypothetical) single-mode diode result in a better image quality?

You guys are funny. I have high respect for both you Steve and Badger, but you're trying to tell us what we should, and should not call a company? LMAO. Give me a break men. Its kind of hypercritical that its OK to disembowel their projector, but cant call them Crapio. The whole point is not to use their name. You cares what we call them? LOL

End Quote.

Simple, Asians are big into a concept called in English simply as "FACE". Saving FACE is defending the company honor and personal honor, and that is all based on name, parentage, and action.

By calling them anything other then Casio they lose massive FACE. Loss of FACE is cause for a fight. Loosing FACE is cause for a variety of actions ranging from apologizing, to quitting a job, loss of social status, to chopping off ones own fingers as punishment, and in rare cases murder or suicide.

Not wise to insult a Asian by abusing their name. Its one of the worse things you can do.

Its a serious social gaff. Very disgraceful to do. Far, far, worse then if I challenge your sexuality or insult your mother in our culture.

Not in a projector like the one these diodes come from. Remember the laser diode is simply a light source for a DLP chip. The DLP chip is what is determining the image and image quality, it doesn't care where the light is coming from. Remember the red is from an LED and the green from phosphors, not even coherent at all.

That makes sense. Thanks for the explanation.
