Right. Looking at the press release it appears the big advantage this new 'hybrid light source' has is it lasts much longer and has a slightly larger color gamut than the more common mercury light source. Looking at the little diagram it appears there's only one LD in the device - a blue laser. It's likely a 445 (array?) with a similar power output to those already being harvested.

Why are you calling them that? They are a well run company and have been for decades. If they were not successful, you would NOT have your blue diodes.

Hear hear! I like that company, and am even wearing one of their watches now.

What we should be doing is giving that company as little reason or excuse to worry about laser enthusiasts, either from liability or negative advertising. Then they can happily continue using laser technologies to improve their projectors, and in turn, we can benefit by using them for our own needs.

I would go so far as to not even mention the projector by name, or use a shortened version. One thing nice about the other diode sources is that we can use the sled names to identify the source, rather than a complete product. Something simple like an "A140 diode" rather than the full projector product name could go far to keep the projector under the radar.

Why do they even care what we do with their product after we buy it? How the hell are they possibly responsible? I mean if you buy a flashlight and smash someones head in with it is the victim going to sue Maglight? FFS Crapio STFU and be glad anyone is buying your stuff you dumb ass mofos.

Soon when all the other manufacturers of PJs get on the laser diode bandwagon Crapio can take their craptastic legal dept. and shove them where the 445nm light don't shine!

Casio doesn't want parts from their projectors being associated with the inevitable bad press when some kid shines a 1W 445nm at a plane, or in a mirror and goes blind.

There have been a few posts stating that C&$10 does not want the 445 diode which we harvest and they purchase as an OEM part directly related to them. This is a sue happy society and we have to respect that. Even saying " the A-140 diode" might reflect back on them in a maner over which they have no control.
Maybe refer to the diodes as simply 130, 140, or 150 and don't mention a projo at all.

Really? There's quite a bit of difference in hitting someone with a light and blinding someone with a Class IV Portable Visible Laser.

I like them. I wore their watches for years and always thought they were ahead of their time. I have one of their pocket digital TVs from decades ago on display and IIRC it was the first of its kind.

The current thought process is that they are the same wavelength. Maybe binned higher or run at a higher current in addition to a different phosphor, stronger led and different optics. But it is all speculation until it arrives. Also there is a question on if they are taking more aggressive steps to keep us from harvesting them.;)

I got thinking tonight -- not good for me!!!

I've been in this hobby for a couple months and I remember the days of pot modding 5 mW greenies to 50 mW !!! WOW Then came the 10, 12, 16, 20 and 22 X RW drives. We took RED from 50 mW to 200+ mW. Then BluRay and we were in heaven with power.
We used company names and part numbers with no threats of litigation. Then the sales of sleds. NOW the 445 and WTH happened? Why now?
