What happened with my 445? Can someone help me?

Hi!

My 445nm (flaminpyro Aurora SH-032 host) was fine until It received a little bumb (it was a very light bumb) and now the beam (without lens) is like this:

And it is much weaker too, I can hardly see the beam... And besides that it is getting warmer faster than before.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Can you show a pic of what the dot looks like with the lens?

I've never seen this before. Diode is damaged in some way.

Can you also take a picture of the diode inside? The tip

The best pic I got from the diode is that:

The red arrow points to some kind of piece inside the diode, its not a reflection. I don't know if it is normal or not.

The dot with the lens is round like the image of it without the lens.

Thanks

look like solder in the aperture from what I can see from the pics.

Banding looks like your diode has gone "zombie". My first 445 nm build suffered this issue only not as intensively. The bump appears to have killed some portion of the lasing medium (from whence the black bands stem). I had to replace the diode and afterwards the laser was 100% better.

Sorry!

Yep. Sounds like a zombie. At what current were you running it? Was it "on" when it was dropped/hit?

Peace,

I had one like that. Put out around 170mW at best no matter what current you pushed into it.

Ohh.. it was on when the bumb ocurred, so now its my first broken laser. :(

Anyway, thanks everyone that tried to help me identify the problem! I love this forum! :thanks:

This could be a good excuse for you to practice installing a new diode.

I will try, will be testing my skills in soldering with 0.50 cents leds first :)

Thanks

Expect to be pampered Regina. Heck I bet a few guys on here would offer you a diode for free especially when they see that avatar of yours... if that's really you that is
