Hello everyone!

I've found this really nice laser

Picture:
JETLASERS-PL-E-445NM-1W-BLUE-LASER-1.JPG

It is attractive to me because it uses (it can use) 2x26650 batteries or AC power supply, power switch
is very nice, and ofc the host itself too...

I was thinking, is it possible to remove the existing diode and replace it with a 9mm one? (and replace the drivers too....)
Or buy just the host with the code switch?

I'm almost sure that's possible, but you have to do it correctly.
That's dependent on the host. ( BTW amazing one )
Wait for the expert people answers ;)

And the laser has internal focusing mechanism. The stock power is 1.2W, but I'd like to have 2W, and not too bad divergence. I think DTR's diodes are ok for this. And I still don't know should I use 445nm 2W or 405nm 800mW...

This is just an idea, for now

You can buy a fixed focus PL-E that is 1.5W-1.7, now

Maybe ask Gray if and when they will offer a 2W model.

Why not buy a 2W from a LPF member who builds them, if 2W focusable is important to you.

PL-E does not use a 9mm diode---to change around a PL-E would be an expensive experiment with no guarantee that it could be accomplished plus you would need the time, knowledge, experience, and equipment in metal working and electronics and optics to even try.

You can probably buy a 3W built by a LPF member for less than it would cost to play around attempting to make a focusable PL-E into a 2W device.

^^^ very true ARG- I rarely mess with any of mine that have focus- maybe once when new but after that I see NO need.

Lone exception IMO is with a 405 and lots to light up -- like dayglo or GITD items.

almost any glass lens can be attached to a laser to make bigger..

I know, but that is not what I asked....

Fixed focus is the best! You wont have to mess around with it to get it focused to infinity every time.

I agree, but sometimes I like to burn things, or even "engrave wood", so I prefer focusable laser. And it is easy to just mark where the best focus is, on the focus "ring".

You did ask " I was thinking, is it possible to remove the existing diode and replace it with a 9mm one? (and replace the drivers too....)

The answer is self evident--with unlimited time, money ,talent, equpiment, and will to do it most anything is possible---so probably is possible.

Buy one and have at it!

If you are waiting for someone to tell you how to do it or if it can be done for certain because it has been done, it will be a very long wait I think.

Hah, we don't live in a prefect world.
I have contacted Gray at jetlasers, and he thinks he can send me just the host (maybe with a driver too).
