unfocussed 445nm diode beam profile needed

Hi everyone,

I've seen some pictures around of the unfocussed beam profile of the 445nm diodes, but mostly without mentioning the used current. I want to know how the bare output looks for these diodes, so can you all post pics of the unfocused output of the diodes and mention at which current the diode was running (and if it's a A130 or A140)? If anyone has their laser adjustable in current and willing to take a series of images then that would be awesome.

A150 set Flexdrive to 1.1A....sorry don't have a LPM to measure.
This is open diode in host with No lens. Aprox. 3 Feet from wall(again sorry for not having accurate data.)

Same photo take right after but may show some variance.

What do you use this information for?
To take over the world.

I want to know how effective spatial filtering can be in order to obtain the best beam quality, as close to a gaussian beam as possible.

Hey 532 with Envy or anyone else with 445 diode@ 1 watt, do you notice any inperfections in your "lensless" beam on the wall. With my lens off seems that I have one or two small slightly less bright round blotches or spot(s). just off center. Perhaps a tiny spec of dust on the diode but, one that doesnt come off. Its very minor but wonder if it is a flaw of that this is common with the 445 @ 1 watt.

Thanks.

Hi

Here is my diode, running at 4.5V 1000mA, about 2 feet away from the wall.

there seems to be some wierd looking circle thing on the top left corner of the light.. I cant see anything on my window, but it does not really hinder diode funtionality, I still dont know what causes it though.

Just to keep things in a single collection, I found this one in another thread, posted by SpyderFire, running 400mA:

Please keep the pics coming, I know there is more :)

Yes GBD (Great Britain Dude ?) ,

This is exactly what I have except, yours may have that spot a little more to the outside. Thanks for the beamshot !! I tried cleaning the diode with lens cloth but I actually got 3-4 more spots ! Eventually I was able to get those to go away except for that one darn initial spot that doesnt want to go away. Perhaps pure alcohol ? But I dont dare......

Hehe.. nope, keep guessing! :na:

I thought about using alcohol as well, but there (I think at least) seems to be a coating on the diode window (AR?), and im not sure weather alcohol will disolve said coating or not.

to clean my windows, I used a Q-tip with a gun-bore patches wrapped around it, reason bieng, is my Q-tips always leave little annoying fibers on it, the gun patch doesnt.. seems to work half decent, but whatever this artifact on my window or diode is, I just cant remove it and I dont want to damage the window in the process.

I do see what your talking about in my photo's.....It is an uneducated guess but it looks to me like the two small circular blotches just left and right of center are the main post in the diode. The light is emitted from the center of the diode and we may be getting some 'shadowing' of the anode and cathode post.

Original picture then 'shadows' circled

I got a rectangle beam with a spot on the bottom left and upper middle. Weird. Other wise, its just a rectangle with s few stripes across the middle that are brighter than others. and a few bands on the top and bottom that looks like dimming stripes.

Sorry I cant get a picture atm. Its at ~1.1A

dont try to clean this, all the diodes ive had have this artifact, ive always beleived it to be imperfections in the die, because open cans have these artifacts as well. the shadow from the conductors is a new theory however it doesnt seem likely as the artifacts appear in random places

Oh how I wish I had money to buy optical elements and perform spatial filtering on these things.
