I converted my trusty L4 Surefire into a 445 laser. It was originally an LED
flashlight so i was able to make use of the internal driver. The original driver
was putting out 930mA so i figured i would leave it be and just hook up the
diode. Heatsinking isn't the best with regards to the way its setup, but its
the best i could manage with the tools i have, the point is it works :D

hmm. People have talked about LED drivers having too many 'spikes' but if anyone did it right, it'd probably be Surefire.

I've got an L4, though I don't know if I'd want to convert it... Surefires have appeal in their own right... But pretty cool you could do a 1:1 using the existing driver...

Good job, looks good. Now put the rest of the array into a HellFighter. :na:

I debated using my SF 6P as a laser host, using a custom drop-in heatsink, but I ended up choosing my Solarforce L2 for the laser drop-in instead.

Both are P60-compatible, but the solarforce just looks nicer, imo. I have it with doubled up o-rings and a trit vial in a nicely machined groove.* Machining, however, is slightly less good than the SureFire, which is nice and smooth and has hard anodize (My solarforce has gunmetal anodize, but I don't think it's a harder anodize. And it's easier to get the lens retaining ring out)

*It wasn't so nice before, did it at first with a dremel. Lucky for me, FlaminPyro offered to redo it for me after the trit busted.

Anyways, I like that L4. I always wanted a flashlight with a TIR, do you still have the optic, or is your conversion still reversable in the future?

Yeah, i was kinda worried that the driver might have some spikes in its ouput, i guess i'll find out in due time :)

i still got the LED and the mount its attached to, it came out as a nice little unit sitting over the driver. I suppose it would be fairly easy to convert it back into a flashlight, but right now i'm having too much fun with it as a laser
