Okay,

@Deftones: It is legal to own, no ATF agent is gonna break your door down over it. People saying you need the goggles outside are telling you wrong, it is perfectly fine to leave the goggles off when skypointing outside, if you point at things on the ground just be smart, avoid cars' tags, chrome accents, etc. as reflections could damage your eyes. Also, it is perfectly fine to look at from the side, since the light is coherent and traveling in the same direction within the beam you'll be fine as long as you don't look directly into the beam. Also, aircraft are required to report any laser sightings, but it isn't difficult to make sure they don't see it, at the range of a high flying aircraft your laser's beam would be huge and therefore less visible, also since the 445nm wavelength is not the most visible, you can't see the beam from more than like 50 yards away if it's pointing straight up, so you'd have to be trying to get noticed by a plane.

I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. I've already found the answers to most of my questions by browsing through the forum. I think I may get a less powerful laser after reading up on the arctic. Plus it seems there is quite the back log on this laser anyways.

I got a question, how many members here have canceled their orders? Or at least tried. The specs were BS, they keep wanting more money, and half the people that ordered don't even get order update emails about all these different versions they're making, or any updates from them period.

not yet! still hoping mine will just show up. have yet to get any positive confirmation. when did you order? wonder what order number they are up to?

I just hope they will do this for me.
Was DOA, then I fixed the tailcap mechanism and it worked for 10 seconds then died on me.

QC, what QC... :yabbmad:

I just got my Arctic Spyder III this Monday and have been playing around with it. I did a review with pics and video here and can help answer any questions you might have. I live in the US and it sailed through customs with no problem. I do have the G1 version, so no multi-mode switch. So far the Spyder is is working just fine.

Hi,

Any updates about the Spyder G2?
anyone have received already?

Thanks.
Nope. And from my chat with ColinBot yesterday, he said that they expect to ship the G2's in "1-2 weeks"

The multimode you mention from the manufactures probably refers to spectral mode. laser diodes often lase at multiple wavelengths unless special measures are taken to prevent. The wavelengths are usually so similar that only a spectrometer could tell them apart. All laser diodes emit in a square pattern because of the gain mediums shape is a square. This does not indicate the spatial mode though. Non-00 spatial modes have regions of zero intensity in them. Almost no lasers emit in a perfect TEM00, but rather about 90% TEM00 and ther rest a sum of all other modes. Look up the "M" factor M squared - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
That is a much better qualifier for what you all are after.

Has anyone emailed WL about their faulty Arctic and have they ever had a reply? I somehow doubt any faulty Arctic will be repaired or even replaced. If that is the case can I still go the the bank for a cashback, due to WL not replying and offering to replace or repair my Arctic?

Got this e-mail today:

Dear XXXX,

I am pleased to announce that G2 Arctic lasers have commenced
shipment. Customers will begin receiving their G2 Arctic lasers in
the order they have ordered it. I again apologize to customers for
the delays. We've learned a lot of lessons on how to expand
manufacturing and we promise we won't disappoint in the future.

I would like to make this up to our customers by continuing to
utilize laser technology to achieve revolutionary products.
If you've known us before you've seen how much we've already
changed the laser world and we are just getting started.
I appreciate all the customers who have patiently waited for their
orders and look forward to serving you again soon.

Best,
Steve Liu

I got my G1 in yesterday and started playing with it. I shined it on my leg to see how hot it actually was. Yes I am always skeptical about the claims of instantly burning skin and clothing. I held it on one spot and about 5 seconds later it started to burn me. I am very careful about my eyes though, I use the included glasses and a #5 welding lens when viewing the spot.
Question: will the welding lens protect my eyes from a direct or reflected flash?
