Ya, i'm thinking the driver isn't getting enough current to drive the laser and the LEDs effectively, but i know nothing about electronics really so i'm not sure.

I don't know much about electronics either, I just didn't think those small LEDs required that much current. But I guess its all how they are wired up.

If the battery is not getting a full charge the LEDs are not going to say it has a full charge.

Yep turns out my battery is dead. I "charged" it all night - The light stayed green the entire time and never was red. I popped it in this morning and the beam only lasted for a few sec then it was very dim. The battery is shot.

Where can I get another battery besides the internet? Do they sell these things at radio shack?

Only place I can think of would be a batteries plus, but you'd have to ask for the cells the put into laptop battery packs. Someone else tried this and were denied for reasons unknown to the person they talked to.

Called them up and they didn't know what the heck I was talking about lol.

Anyways is there a good place online to get some quality ones and a charger? Thanks for the help!

I've tried getting 18650s almost everywhere locally, and i've been actually laughed at by the batteries plus guys (until i pulled out my 200mW portable laser and explained just why i needed only one laptop cell...), allbattery.com was good for me when i got my 18650s, you'll want to buy more than one anyway and they ship fast, two days from CA to OK. You probably don't have an issue with the charger, chargers are relatively difficult to screw up, and this charger is a standard in the laser community, it's a typical charger for chinese laser distributers.

EDIT: One place I've never thought of trying was a sex shop... Maybe they have some 18650 operated "waterproof body massagers"?

Cool thanks man. I'll pick one up asap. And just to make sure. Any 18650 amp hour will do .... like a 2700...?

No problem, that's why this thread is here, to help, it's great to see someone actually get some use out of it. :D

EDIT: yes, the higher the better, i'm pretty sure mine were 2700's. :)

ACK! I got another 18650 and it doesn't charge either! The stupid charger light just stays green no mater what I do. I guess the charger is dead.

I just went ahead and got a protected ultrafire 18560 and Tenergy charger from Amazon.

Okay next issue....

First off, this laser is very powerful. It burned a hole clean through my black-out curtains in my bedroom from the bathroom (20 feet at least).

It also instantly burned a hole through my brown pillowcase lol.

It makes a small line shaped burn. 20 feet is about 1/2 cm.

Now to the issue. The "Full Power" lens is starting to form a small line shape on the glass right where the laser emits and hits it. It would appear that the laser is somehow distorting the glass.

Is this even possible? :wtf:

That's odd... Maybe their glass coatings aren't rated for 1W output... It would seem they cut costs everywhere else, it only makes sense for them to skip on that as well... :tsk:

If I shine this up at the sky and an airplane pilot sees it and reports it, can I get in trouble? I mean if the beam never even comes close to the plane but he just sees the beam from a distance. The reason I ask is because I'm thinking about ordering one of these but there's an airport a few miles from where I live.

And do I really have to wear the safety goggles at all times when outside? Will looking at the beam from the side view cause eye damage? Also please confirm that this thing is legal to own in the USA.

Sorry for the rookie questions, but I figured I'd ask here since it was titled questions answered. I saw this laser on Ebay and the seller had a link to this site so I figured I'd sign up.

Thanks...

Dont let your batteries go below 2.5V.

In many cases, the higher mAh is better. In this case, we do not know yet.

Those of you who have received spyder 3 pro arctic with the 1300mAh battery, perhaps you would like to help us ID this battery. It is either the worst capacity 18650 I've ever seen, ever (I have 5 year old LiCo's that hold more) or they are actually high-performance safe-chemistry Li-Ions, which would explain the low capacity.

Pics of the + end would be the most help of all, short of running a discharge test on a very high-power load (done outside, with risk of cell explsion if it's a regular Li-Ion)

Anyways, please give us your input: http://laserpointerforums.com/f67/please-post-info-wl-18650-1300mah-cells-54097.html
