any advice on how far/close should my bottom lens be in order to get a good beam to burn? I am having a hell of a time trying to even burn a dry maple leaf

We need more information about you loser. A lot of lasers have some focusing knobs.
:crackup: That typo sounded very mean.
Cheers! :beer:
@Mr. Beamz
In the very front of the laser, there is a focusing knob. Turn that to tighten your dot diameter. Put your goggles on, and wiggle the knob and see where the dot is smallest, and you can concentrate all of your 2W beam into that small spot.
That should be where you're burning stuff.
Cheers! :beer:
Edit: I usually like to burn stuff at 5-10cm from the laser. Don't get too close or the smoke may damage your lens.
What type of diode???? How much current??? What type of lens???? Battery type or voltage????? What driver are you using?
Edit If I was a betting man I would say the diode is being starved for power, but I'm not going to bet.
Did you assemble this unit?
a buddy of mine did a long time ago..
Lier, I recognize this, it's one of AnthoT's lasers that a seller called pr0jkt stole off him, I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I'm right
