@bionic-badger

actually that sounds like a really good idea, if that assembly comes with a red diode also, its really worth the price,, definatly something ill come back to once i get the 445 running, all i need is to get a 445 at 1w for the challenge, and ive gotten that housing and lens already. If all works out with the LM317, im going to modify the setup (mostlikkley using that o-like driver or a flexdrive) to make it more efficinet. Thanks for the recomendations!

ill order the parts this week hopefully, but my 18650s are from DX and wontget here for about 2 weeks :(

probly have this done in 3

You can use the flexdrive with any cells that can supply the needed current, not only 18650s.
Dude, beware with 445. It is very dangerous, take read about the blue light hazard on the internetz. I'm very concerned with safety, always use goggles... else you can lose blue sensitivity on your eye for a few hours/weeks.

Blue light hazard is nothing compared to other hazards. Specular reflection and even diffuse reflection are the most dangerous thing, most likely to happen. And with those we talk about non-reversible damage.
I also burned my fingers few times with my 445 :-D

Thanks for the headsup, ill be sure to keep eye saftey as my top proiority with this. If i can get it up to 1.5 watts just for the challenge, ill rewire it to have a lower power alternitive mode to switch to for saftey reasons. Thanks for all the help guys!!
