is it safe to run my diode .....

hi guys,

is it safe to run my diode off of my adjsutable power suppy with no driver ?

looking at the reading from the driver its putting out 1.25A @ 8. something V


so running my diode direct from the power pack at 5v and 1A is ok? right?

its a main power supply

and a 445 diode from one of Yobresal builds i bought a while back

I have ran my diode off of a simuliar lab psu to the one you linked,
that works fine, as long as it has current limititing, like the one you posted.

But what exactly do you mean by "run it directly off the power pack"

im just wondering if its safe for the diode ... running it using the psu with no driver just connected strait to the psu. i was think that maybe the drivers ran at a certain hurtz or maybe the slight fluctuation in current from the psu could damage the diode

Should be DC, hertz wouldn't be a factor...as said earlier if you set your voltage around 5v and the PSU regulates the current and you can set it as well then it shouldn't be a problem..most PSUs have built in bleeder resistors for the large capacitance they carry (unless is a switch mode PSU) but it's wise to short the leads together coming from the PSU (with the power off of course) before you connect the diode..any left over charge could blow your diode..I learned this the hard way with PSU and a high end DAC chipset I was working on....just set your current to less than 1.8a and you should be good to go. This is also assuming the diode is well heatsinked.

thansk for the info my diode is pressed into a cpu heatsink im been ran 30 mins strait without it ever getting warm.
