This is him right?

@Eradicator: I know what your thinking. When i saw that post i was like WHAT? As mhemling sais, it all depends on what ur duty cycles are.

A C6 with Aluminum heat-sink and an M140 around 1.3-1.5 A is probably the most common build made and sold on here. It is tried and true. As for heat sinking the driver, you are using a linear if i remember right, so you should definitely heat-sink it at these powers, they are not the most efficient drivers ever, a lot of extra heat output. You would be fine with the aluminum heat-sink for the diode. Copper will give you an extra 10-15 seconds run-time maybe, they are really not all that different.

Sorry to step in but i've read the whole thread and seen the products you want to buy, yet i wonder why nobody told you that you miss the most important thing in the whole project...

Safety goggles! You are planning to work with a 1+ Watts laser diode and operating it without proper safety glasses will only lead to one result: Damage to your eyes.

Please protect yourself before starting any tests.

Hi there,

Does anyone have any idea where to find two cheap (really cheap) galvo scanners? I need to control where a laser pointer is pointing using a micro. so it doesn't have to be fast or any of the other things a laser show would need, only move the laser dot around. Any ideas? or any suggestions of something else to use? I'm doing a university project so not full of cash

Markchaplin...WHAT? I think you are posting on the wrong thread. I was a noob to this forum just a couple days ago, but even i know to start a new thread haha. We are not talking about that stuff on this thread...Try somewhere else.

Hope you find what you are looking for!

Are you really implying that an M140 at 1.5A will only last one month in a C6 aluminum heatsink?

Nope, i believe this was before he said he was going to use a 20 cycle. i know that Al is the most common heat sink made and sold and i have one myself, 1.5W 445nm with buck driver set around 1.5-1.8A, i believe, all inside a Al heat sink :) i use cycles of 30 sec and i have no doubt it will last me a long time. it also depends on how often you use the laser. C6 is a common host but it is also a smaller host. using Cu IMO is better due to the properties of Cu vs Al. Its also just my opinion so that's why i said in the end the discussion is always the builders

Oh and i am using, gosh i cant remember. either a survivallaser glasses or from ProUV. Forgot. However, i need a second pair for my friend. You guys know any glasses that are cheap and that work? I just need something that blocks the laser, i don't care if the glasses may get burnt in the process

rep isnt just earned by posting advice or helpful information. people get it for selling quality goods, making nice builds and other various things. take all the advice that is given to you, read other threads and absorb knowledge, then when you feel fitting apply this knowledge and rep will follow. you cant expect to join a community (not saying that you were expecting this but hypothetically) and have rep flying around like it is free candy. in that case the rep would be meaningless........"oh hey look jimmy got 500 pieces of candy today, yayyyy him."

be patient young grasshopper :) and good luck on your build.

Always remember safety first, not only when using ANY laser but also building them

EDIT: also update your profile information with a location. when it comes to lasers advice may vary depending on locations due to laws and regulations.
