How's the resistance between the tail cap and head if either of you guys can meter it?

On my host it was 10-50 Ohms on the body to the tailcap without a shim inserted between the head and the lower heatsink with screw threads.
With the shim, 0.1 Ohms - 0.3 Ohms depending on where I measure from.

@Badboybilly Arctic MX4 basically the same formulation as Arctic silver 5 (TIM), it's slightly different in the carrier material formulation.
Heat conduction : 8.5 W/(mK)
Viscosity:870 poise

The entire head is being shipped out tomorrow to DTR.
Hopefully all is fine with the module removal.

Honesty the diode module is far too buried to get any
Psu into test the diode.
However I am reasonably certainly the diode is fine.

(Due to the way the driver acted up)

@ Badboybilly what precision current regulated PSU do you use to
test a large 9mm diode like this?

I know I need a better setup than what I got.

I am all ears...
I don't have the best lighting or working conditions at the moment.

Similar to Jordan's old supply, works great never had a problem or killed a diode,

But I do need to upgrade it's only a 3a 18v

I'm positive Jordan will have the module fixed and shipped back in no time,
Good luck!

For an update got the head and pushed the module out though the back. No marring on the host or damage to the module. Looks like the output leads on the driver got pinched in there and were shorting against the wall. Good news is the diode is still working great but the driver is burnt toast.

Ah thank you... what I thought about the diode. The diode was fine but the drive was toast...

However, the pinch marks are from me trying to disconnect the diode from the driver. Just to clarify. I think the driver encountered something else that caused it to suddenly die.

Anyways.. all in all great news. And thank you again DTR!! You saved me! :san:

Just bill me how much I owe you. (if you could install the plug that'd be great)

Seriously DTR you're awsome..
getting a bit emotional as this was a gift to someone.

:gj::worthy: Great work !

I had no doubt as I was reading this that you would have no problems getting the module out because I know a professional when I see one and if your anything like me you have ALOT of tricks up your sleeve, with a very few saved for just such a occasion (a very stuck module with all eyes of the laser community on you).

Great Work DTR !

Yeah, thanks Accutronitis.... :thanks: DTR has been here since the forum's inception. He's like the Yoda of things LD related. :fightin:

Yep, I'm in Vegas and I know a sure bet when I see it ! The very next thing I'm going to buy is one of his NUBM44 450nm Diode
In 25mm Copper Module W/Driver that is going in my own host build which I'm hoping will happen the first of the month if everything goes to plan...... :friend:

The NUBM08 4A Electric Plasma is returning to Canada as I type.
A decision was made to use a different driver, namely the blackbuck v6M as the dimension of the tube would better fit this.

I'm am still wondering what caused the original driver to die so quickly the first time. Shorts to a diode while in operation usually causes instant LD Death due to in-rush current. This however did not happen.

Oh well, what's done is done and I hope to have beam shots and a solid review up as soon as I get it up and running.

Again big thanks to DTR (Jordan) for his help.

Still hoping the best for your build. The 08 is a great diode/ wavelength. Love the color. Put a g2 on mine and it burns my fingers right quick! Teaches me to keep my fingers out of the beam. :) Anyways looking forward to the beam shots. :D

My laser has come back to me from DTR (Jordan). As you can see the board is completely different than the one prior. This one is featuring the
Blackbuck v6M.

Work will commence as soon as I get some time possibly this weekend.

Well, I did a bit of construction on the laser this afternoon.

I made myself a copper shelf out of some thin walled copper pipe, flattened using a large vice and then sized it up with a hacksaw. I then applied a thin layer of Arctic Alumina to adhere the copper shelf to the driver board.

Within 30minutes the epoxy had set and it was time for a test fire.
I have not installed the plug just yet. I put the driver + shelf into the laser head and connected the wires to my crude battery pack.
I can say now that this laser is fully armed and operational! Next part will be to install the tail plug and set the module into the laser head.

The ElectricPlasma NUMBM08 is 95% finished as of today.

I got the head plug installed and tested the conductivity including the area around the threads. No issues, and nearly 0 Ohms resistance.

I popped in 2 3000mAh Samsung 18650cells and hit the tail switch. There was a flash of beautiful blue light, then the laser stopped working. I heard what believe to be (popping) shorting coming from the tail switch.

I popped the tail cap off and manually shorted the end terminal of the battery to the case.. Laser was lasing as it should.

I can confirm the tail switch is the last issue to take care of.

Testing this laser against some wood, really was a good demonstration of
just how much burning power this laser truely has. At 25cm focal length, this laser was able to set wood on fire instantly with a pop not unlike a CO2 laser.
No smoldering, just an instant flame.

May this be a plea for eye safety. USE professional eyewear when using a laser of this magnitude.
