hey guys, not totally new to the forum but haven't been involved with lasers for a couple of years now. Finally back into and had a couple questions about a host. I've been debating on building a 1W 445 and was wondering if this host is acceptable for either a 405nm-120mA or 445nm 1W build? http://www.*****************.com/shop/127-true-laser-host.html Just not sure if it will take enough heat away from the axiz module. I've already purchased it and going to use with a PHR-805 diode i picked up recently. I've tried searching on the forums but couldn't find anything. Thanks for the info!!

Yes and no.

Those are doable. I have a 445 in one, and I love it, but there are a few things to know:

1) Your only option is to go boost driver. NJGs don't fit. The typical $15 o-like boost is also awkward in this host. It's tough to find the right driver.

2) The diameter is larger than an Aixiz module requires by a mm or so. You'll need a creative solution to this like copper tape to wrap the module in.

3) Lenses, at least glass ones, are tough to fit inside the casing in some situations. You may need to drill away a bit of the head, or recess the module in quite far. No focus knob can be used on the lens either.

4) Odicforce and Rayfoss sell the same thing for a dollar cheaper and are better sites in my opinion.

Thanks for the info but realized after purchasing this and the micro flex and groove drivers that the flex regulates the voltage at 5v and the groove is v in = v out give or take 1v or so. i was kinda let down after realizing i didn't have the right batteries/driver for my PHR-805t well i can always use it for a red pointer =) thanks again

None of that is accurate.

Neither driver is a voltage regulator circuit, they're current regulators.

The flex doesn't regulate voltage at anything. Voltage depends on your diode's IV curve and the current you set.

The groove is NOT:
Vout = Vin - 1v or so.

It IS:
MAX Vout = Whatever the heck your diode wants it to be, as long as it's less than Vin - Dropout (~1.25V)

Obviously then, the groove is no good for this host. But I see no reason why the flex wouldn't work.

Im sorta new to lasers.. Not sure if you would know anything about them or not, but in the U.S i know that you can't order a laser over 5mw without it being confiscated at customs, so i was wondering, can you order a 50mw or a 100mw module without it being confiscated?

The microflex can be used in almost ANY build. If you want to use 1 li-ion or two li-ion you good to go with the microflex.

Come on man try to use some forum etiquette. Most of the people who read this will know the answer to your question but wont help you because of how you asked it and because the information can easily be found using the search function.

I tried using it, but for some reason whatever i type in, it comes up with nothing found. This is the first time i have ever used a forum, so i would appretiate some slack...

Well you wont find any unless you read the rules of the forum and follow them. Try using the google custom search ^^^^ it works better.

I just searched "lasers over 5mW" and here are a couple useful results

Gotcha, i must of read the info wrong on the groove. Trying to figure all of this stuff out is kinda confusing at first, lol. Thanks for the info, my diode must be bad or something because its not bright at all and running the PHR-805t at 120ma
