So I got this diode from DTR and just installed it in my SS18650 on a BoostDrive and It just fails...It burns tape SO very slow. Here is the diode with no lens. I am frustrated, out 50$ and the laser still fails.

REALLY upset.

Did DTR send me a bad diode? Or what happened..

What kind of current is it drawing from the battery? What current did you set on the driver? The output looks pretty good...

Some of the emitters have failed. This diode is technically dead, but its what IgorT might call a zombie. Lasing still occurs, but there is damage done, it will be a weak for the rest of its lasing life.

i see no damage. maybe you need to clean it take a very close look at the window. i had a friend bring me back his laser saying it would not burn even with fresh batteries.
I cleaned the window and his power went up by about 2x.
And asked him where his glass lens was he said he lost it and grabbed this one off his phr build...
Sometimes on extraction some thermal paste can get on the window. so make sure and check but the pics look clean but can be hard to tell.

In my experience 1 out of 30 of these diodes will behave like this right out of the projector. I have 1 right now doing the same thing. It is only putting out maybe 150mW at 1 Amp.

Yeah, the output does not look entirely uniform, and there are some larger distances between consecutive emission areas. I happen to have one like yours.

Sorry toaster. Was getting out of work and just saw your PM. I can see all three lines. It just looks like it is being underpowered. Lets figure out what is wrong and then we can see what I can do for you. ;)

Did DTR say if he tested it before he shipped it?

I can only test it if you get it mounted in a module.

Did your zombie have the three mode lines. I had a zombie putting out about 100mW but it was a solid looking no lines. I decaned it to see if it would look any different. Nope like a blue flashlight solid color output.

well I know The driver is still working fine.. I don't see what could be at fault other than the diode...
