Sheesh, if I were DTR I would not have "met you half way" on that diode refund, certainly not without having received it back, and certainly not after the crybabying after that more-than-generous offer was given.

I'll have to remember not to sell diodes to Toaster if I ever get in that business.

DTR's reputation is beyound doubt on this forum, if you have a dud its unusual.
I had a deal go sour on this forum with another member, it wasnt my fault, nor his...it was just one of those things...it didnt stop me feeling insanely guilty tho, even tho i'd dont nothing wrong, and nor had he.

So Toaster, if DTR is offering a solution, take it.

Did you want me to send the module back too?

And was this really needed to be said in the post?

"I'll have to remember not to sell diodes to Toaster if I ever get in that business."

I certainly don't think so.

Keep in mind there are those out there who desire a 100mW 445nm laser which is hard to come by. You could also lower the current and get maybe a 50mW 445nm.

I think this is a good point too...with the 'fail' of the diode you now have the opportunity to use if for a Great Lab build....if I remember right reading these diodes have a problem lazing under 200mW....so a underpowered one would work great for some color mixing projects you may have.
just a thought

I'm glad you 2 worked it out. I do think this could have been resolved in PM's and not a public spectacle. I have 8-11 diodes not mounted yet. 4 are pre-extracted. If ones a dud, well..it's a dud. It's the chance you take. DTR is highly experienced at this as many on here are. That's why I purchase from them and not non LPF'ers I know nothing abt.

On the vid:
1. Why didnt you press the diode out? The whacking and green stuff was the aperture lens shattered and falling out. Its not even a good low power now. I use a hardened split pin that just fits through the diode opening. That way when pressing out nothing is touching the diode face.
2. Why are all your threads backwards? Your vid was 180* flipped? Everything appeared it was left hand threaded. Looked weird. Even the set screw..........
3. When pressing, I saw you straighten the assembly, that's good, but you should always use the center of the vice jaws just over the big acme threaded screw. Vice jaws will cock a little the farther out from the center you go and can apply uneven pressure. Even high priced precision vices. Acme threads are just notoriously sloppy. That may be why the host threads get tight near the end. Doesn't take much.
4. Solder on the threads shouldn't have bonded and be easily picked away. You can fix/clean an external thread with a triangle jewelers file easily or pick away anything on an internal thread with a dental pick.

Glad to see the other one is ok. You should really thank DTR. That offer was more than fair. I thought at one time they were making a good chunk of money too. Do the math. It may be a little, but they are taking a risk with a lot of ppls money on GB or upfront purchases. You cannot expect them to do it for nothing or a break even situation.

I think the diode is lost now for good... Wish you would have told me before I punched it.

Was going to do it over PM but DTR insisted not to. I just posted here first to make sure it was messed up, then PMed him.

1. I said in the video I didn't have a press tool. Next time though, I will save a zombie. Didnt know, sorry:)()
2. Yes It was mirrored, but I didnt think It would matter for the sake of these videos
3. Will do next time, Thanks
4. Its ok, it goes in :) I think it is something on the top of the pill. The solder not taking was one of the reasons the accidents happen

Said thanks, but thanks again.

I can still try to decan the diode. There is a good amount of room in the can and a chance that It is as good as it was when you had it running.

I am not sure why you keep saying I brought it here. I have no problem being out in the open but lets be straight. You started this thread and posted several times before even PMing me. Then you finally PM'ed me and when you did not get an immediate response you continued to post here. I was on my way home from work and when I walked in and saw you had posted half a page of replys. At that point it probably was better to discuss it out in the open.;)

Here is what I came home to find.

So I got this diode from DTR and just installed it in my SS18650 on a BoostDrive and It just fails...It burns tape SO very slow. Here is the diode with no lens. I am frustrated, out 50$ and the laser still fails.

REALLY upset.
Did DTR send me a bad diode? Or what happened..

~1.05 amp (max) Should be easily within ranges

So I did just blow 50$.. Ugh:(

It it defined lines across and it dosesnt clean.. Where is DTR...

Yeah It takes about 10 sec to burn a hole in tape. Im PM DTR

edit. 10 not 1

I DID Short the caps by the way.

Its pretty useless.. Not even very bright at focus

Well, the length of the heatsink will affect the battery compartment length...

But it is a little loose once it gets past the threads inside the head. And can be tightened slightly 'off center' if your not watching out for this...

I used some copper tape inside and I think it helped. The heatsink goes in perfectly center and it also helps the heat transfer to the host.

wouldn't recommend copper tape bro, the stuff still has a sticky side to it (ie.insulator) and and might do a lot more harm than good.
I heard about another member just wanting to wrap tons of aluminum foil around the module for a heatsink
