hello¡¡¡¡¡¡ LPF im new in the forum and i want a opinion

im planning a build, the popular 445nm laser :D

:lasergun:

*i want to use this heatsink

*this driver(i like it because it is a circular chape)

*and finaly this lenses

i have a ultrafire c8 flashlight collecting dust and with the dimensions of the heatsink i know i can adapt it to the host, i want to use 2 18650 cells (3800 mha)

i want 1w (no 2 or 1.5 watts)

oooooo i almost forget it i'am using an a140 laser diode

what do you think about ;)

this is the host(i have the extension for 2 18650 cells)

as everyone mentioned it will not fit as mentioned in their description: "Fits the Ultrafire Wf-501B host"

lens should be okay for your build.

I just put together a 445nm in a C8 which is running 2 18650's like you are planning. The C8 has a big head on it that can fit a really good sized heat sink, but I never found a drop-in that would fit it. I had some help machining mine, but it works great. Solid copper; runs for 5 minutes at 1.6A and just gets lukewarm.

The video that ebay seller posted shows him placing a diode into the back of that heat sink... not pressing. If it is that loose, it will need thermal paste or it will overheat. Looks like a pretty bad idea, even if it did fit your flashlight.

The biggest problem that I ran into with the C8 was the pill. Rather than being a "normal" pill that will fit a 16mm driver, it was just an empty threaded ring (no top). The stock driver for the flashlight is 20mm, and there is no brass ring. I got mine to work, but I had to build the top part of the pill myself. It worked out fine in the end, but it was a lot more work than it should have been.

The driver you posted looks like this one: 18V 5W Cree Circuit Board for Flashlights (16.8mm*5.5mm) [LEDBRD] - $4.99 : Cajunlasers Store
You're getting ripped off if you spend $15 for it on ebay... Its a flashlight driver, not made specifically for lasers, but I haven't used one.

I used one of Moh's drivers and it works perfectly. I heatsinked the crap out of it with lots of copper, so the pill weighs about 3/4 oz. It runs forever without getting too hot. I couldn't ask for more. Looks like he is out of stock right now though (?).

That lens is fine, but again, it's cheaper here: Multi-element Glass lens 405/445nm [GL445] - $6.99 : Cajunlasers Store
Ebay is not the best place for this stuff. If it is within your budget, a G-1 or G-2 lens ($58 and $45 respectively) will get you to 1W with lower current, so you will have less heat to deal with, and your batteries will last longer. If you go with the $7 3 element lens, you will be fine, you will just have to drive it a little harder.

... And don't forget your safety glasses. You NEED them with 1W!

You think the driver will be fine??? If i put a little thermal paste the problem with the heatsink will be solution??? I already have laser googles :D

That guy on ebay is selling the same lens for $30 saying its CNC laser lens, what a rip off!!
Check the dimensions before you buy that heatsink, Or PM Eudaimonium to make you one custom made..
The driver is even cheaper on DX ~$2 Link
It not a good driver to use for a laser diode as it will most likely be using cheap flashlight grade components which are most likely to go bad..
Ultrafire 3800mAh are FAKE ULTRAFIRES.. See here
Go for 2400mAh ones.. or buy some name brand batteries like this one

Don't rush into building your laser, take your time and get it right.

Yea, don't buy anything from that seller on ebay (423ricktrent4). If you already have, you may have wasted your money. If you are going to sink a little money into a laser, it would be best to get the right parts. That heat sink is a cheap piece of crap, to put it bluntly. The C8 is capable of housing an outstanding heat sink. Get a forum member to build you one that fits it.

I know some people use those drivers for lasers, but it would be better to get one with the current set where you want it. You can email Mohrenberg, or PM him on the forum. Drivers : Mohgasm!, Because it feels so good.
He will set you up with the driver you want. You will have to know how to solder to put the laser together (no matter which driver you use).

I would assume it would not be a problem to have them shipped to Mexico, but you need to ask them before you order to be sure.

They are all trustworthy people with very good business reputations here on the forum.

Another idea... Since you are going to be spending $12 on a driver, about $30 on a heat sink, putting a lot of work into the C8 pill (and finding a brass ring), buying thermal adhesive, silicone wire, and other things. A much easier option would be to order the whole "just add diode kit" kit from Moh, and the diode itself from DTR or Clif at Cajunlasers.

Aurora C6 Just Add Diode Kit - $35.00 : Mohgasm!, Because it feels so good.

If you are sure you want to use the C8, you could make a very nice laser, but it will cost you twice as much money, and it will take MUCH more work to build it.

Get your safety goggles first, and Its the best DIY for a new member, it is very safe and easy way to complete a DIY and has less chances of things to go wrong, a 1.25A would be fine for a C6 kit and it will give you a good 1min/1min duty cycle aswell.. M140 at 1.25A with a regular 3 element lens will be 1W and a long lasting laser.. Good luck

Haha, thanks. I did lurk for a while, but not THAT long. I have been somewhat addicted to reading and laser-building since I got here I'm just obsessive like that :D. This place is a treasure trove of info!

The "just add diode" kit is the easiest and cheapest way, but some of the work will be done for you. All you really need to do is install the diode and solder the wires.

If you want to do more of the work yourself (I think it is more satisfying to build things myself), you have a lot of options. Honestly, the C8 is not the best host for a first build, just because of the problems with the pill. You need to be creative to make it work. I built my first 445nm in a C2 body. The head is a little smaller, but they have a very good pill. Your extension tube will work for the C2 as well.
