well today I found a nick in my diode window... wasn't there last night. It's probably cutting about 20% of my power. How hard is it to de-can these things? BTW lighter fluid works fine as a cleaner IMO.

@yobresal
Yeah, there's a few cotton fibers in the bottom of the module that I'm trying to fish out, but they seem to be stuck. I'm using microfiber from now on.

Same issue I have. The quetip is all I have for now so it was my only way to do so...It does leave fibers behind usually, but you want to hit the lens with one side of the quetip only once...Do they make microfiber pens with small fiber tips? I know they have the blowing things for cameras are nice...

Let me know what you find, were in the same boat :D

hey guys-just to make sure, I have what looks like a small blue dot on the diode window. Chip in the glass or something melted?

Need a pic.
the spec and beamshot. I'd need a microscope for a better picture of the spec on the lens.... the spec that causes that big black blob is just above the right side of the golden thing behind the diode window.

Edit, now i see it. Yeah it just looks like crud. Try cleaning it with isopropanol.

Use a Lens cleaner or a Glasses cleaner (meh same thing)if you are using Lighter fluid and isopropal alcohol the lens window it isnt a chip in the window. the fluid would have killed ur diode/or will kill your diode

cheers

alright, thanks for the advice. I'll try and head to town tomorrow and pick up some rubbing alcohol. As a note of interest, I can't sleep because my cats are killing something in the bathroom :tired:

If I can get enough interest, I may consider doing like a "group buy" on this first contact cleaner I have. You spread it onto GLASS ONLY as a liquid, then once it's dry, just peel it off. Works extremely well :)

Glass only because the chemicals melt plastic lenses. I found out the hard way.

700mW of 445nm heavenly blue... Niiiice, Professor! Love the "matching" Kryton... and my guess is that you have a matching Grateful Dead Tie-dyed Tee shirt to go with it... :D
