Laser From Ebay

Hi guys,

I'm new on this forum and I would like to ask more information about a laser found on ebay.

After reading online I know that ebay is NOT SAFE to buy lasers but a Friend bought this monster:

I noticed that it can burn and I'm sospiscius...

So I use an ir and uv Hoya filter (I'm a photographer in free time) to see if it can burn also with this filter mounted on...

It can burn again (paper, plastic wood and so on)...

So, I was worried and I suggest to my friend to use this laser only external and pointed to the sky (stars).

Someone of you tested it?

It can be dangerous for infrared or uv?

I noticed that goggles includes are very cheap and dangerous (my 303 green laser, that I use to point stars, is visible though them...). The blue laser can burn this cheap goggles and pass through.

So, what kind of laser is this?

What kind of goggles do you suggest? (if is it safe to use indoors).

The purchased laser is probably a typical cheap Chinese laser with a power around 1W.

The goggles included may be sufficient as long as you don’t do anything stupid, but if you want something that will for sure protect you get goggles from survivallasers.

Please do not shine the laser at any planes... goggles do not protect you from bullets when the police come. Shiny surfaces are also dangerous.

The laser uses, if the listing is correct, a 445nm diode. They don’t output any uv or ir.

This is a cheap 445nm blue laser, and as Gazen has already told you, it doesn't produce any UV or IR and is likely close to 1 watt in optical power. Some of these cheap lasers use acrylic lenses that will melt and destroy the laser entirely. It should have only glass lenses in it. Coming into a forum of laser enthusiasts and making a statement it is NOT SAFE to buy lasers comes off as trolling to me. Maybe you didn't intend it, but as a first post, it sure does.

I agree, after 8 days and 5 responses with no reply, the chances are that he was trolling.

He might of meant that it’s not safe to buy lasers off eBay. Half true as stayed powers are rarely accurate.

The 405 pens are scary because they don't look dangerous to a novice, but they sure could be.
