I have Micro flexdrive 445nm

This performance is probably the 5v.

I will buy a diode and use with this drive

but diode manual says

· 200 mA -- 3.7 V-- 50 mW

· 300 mA -- 3.8V-- 135 mW

· 400 mA -- 3.9V-- 275 mW

· 500 mA -- 4.0V-- 435 mW

· 600 mA -- 4.1V-- 570 mW

· 700 mA -- 4.1V-- 690 mW

· 800 mA -- 4.15V-- 830 mW

· 900 mA -- 4.2V-- 950 mW

· 1000 mA -- 4.3V-- 1050 mW

· 1100 mA -- 4.35V--1150 mW

· 1200 mA -- 4.4V--1250 mW

· 1300 mA -- 4.45V--1340 mW

· 1400 mA -- 4.5V--1470 mW

· 1500 mA -- 4.5V--1550 mW

If I connect the two does it work?

You need to set the flex drive on the current you want , keep it @ 1000mA

I assume the mW rating is at the laser meter, and the rest of the power is wasted as heat. Correct me if I am wrong.

4.2v * 900 mA would be 3.78 watts. That would mean you're only getting an efficiency of 25% at 950 mW output.

Yep, that's about right. Laser diodes aren't too efficient unfortunately and a lot of power is just lost into heat.

You also get diodes that are more efficient than others too for the same power input. No one diode is the same.
