It will be hard to tell the difference between a 2.2W and 1.5W laser. You end up paying a premium for the 2W+ laser because (as mentioned) not all diodes are capable of 2W or more.

You can find a 1.5Wish laser for much cheaper on this forum. Just take a look in the BST section.

I have a feeling you did not do your homework before spending
at least $150.00 more than you should have....

A 455nm LD will have a short lifetime at near 2000mW.. They
are rated at 1000mW...

I would lie to the ba5tard- tell him your cat got run over and your vet bill comes first.
Like Jerry sez he is a big time BSer so you may need to BS him back- telling him that you have heard all about his BS prolly wont have the results you seek.

and even if it is over 2W (which I highly doubt) you still paid ~150$ too much.

This. You need to use social engineering on people like this. The best thing to do would be to say it in a way that sounds like you're leaving the door open to buy from him again , but you just want to get some sudden money issue taken care of until you get the next paycheck.

^^^The nice approach is good to start with, but with people who are scammers in the first place, it's not likely to work. The money is in his possession, he is not going to just hand it back. What he will likely do is delay and drag things out.

This guy is a scammer, through and through, he doesn't give a $hit about the crap he peddles or the people he peddles it to. He is also not after repeat business. Even on that forum it's only a matter of time before his reputation catches up to him.

If a refund is not forthcoming, send a threat to dispute, and after that proceed to dispute.

Sometimes you can use their greed to get what you want from them if you know how to play it. I know someone who was able to just make $200 dollars from one of those Nigerian chain scammers by just making up some BS about how he believed the person but needed the money to cover banking fees. I just hope the threat for a dispute works.... he might think he's untouchable.

LOL, no one is untouchable.

I had an ebay guy scam me once. He was acting like a big shot because he's sergeant in the army. He sold me knives as genuine - something I asked about specifically - and than had the balls to have the knives sent directly to me from DX.

When I questioned him about the long shipping time - after 10 days passed he gave me some BS excuse.

Of course when I got the knives they were blatant fakes. He refused to refund me, and said to go ahead with the dispute. So I took another approach, since I had his name and phone number I found the base where he was stationed and called the MPs on his @$$. Next day I get an email from him asking to ship the knives out, full refund and $10 extra to cover return shipping

Never heard back, but his ebay account has been completely inactive since too.

XD hahaha good for you. I freaking hate scammers like their are so many legit ways to make money. They might take longer, but they work out better than scamming somebody in end.

OMG
u just got SCAMMED
i have experience dealing with these people before

step 1: try to make up some BS excuse to get ur money back now BUT will buy it in 2 weeks (paycheck arrives)
this method has very little chance on someone who is trying to scam you
step 2: if he refuses, then file a dispute right away (why would a legit seller refuse?)
file a dispute and after 3 days file a claim
mark as "item not shipped"
if you sent money as "gift" then you're screwed
step 3: if he ships the laser and gives paypal the tracking info then change the reason as "item not as described"
this step will be about 1 month from now but after 2 more weeks, paypal should refund you your money

hope this turns out ok and you get your money back asap

The thing is he will try to fight it with his B.S. I think it's time we find a way to out this guy for the sake of everyone. He just makes all us laserists look bad especially for those who think all that's out there is overpriced junk and they don't know they got scammed.

It's possible that he WAS NOT in the military, or even ex-military.

ESPECIALLY if he uses " ... I am in the military and I know what I am talking about ... " as a *selling point*.

No guarantee, but that's a fairly likely possibility. A lot of it is going around ... for the purposes of commercial scamming, politics, just to get attention, etc.

It's illegal to do that, and sometimes they get prosecuted. Search google for "Stolen Valor Act ".

^^^I spoke with him on the phone. In one of his emails I basically said CALL ME! and he did. Except he didn't block his number. I tracked the number+name

He might have been pretending, or not - I doubt it, but I do know that calling the MP's on him resolved the issue overnight. MP's would not have had any authority over a civilian... although to be honest I'm not sure over legalities on base.

The @$$hole did actually sell the same knives I returned to him, while I still had them, during the dispute.

What gets me is that I left clear negative feedback, and people still bought from him.

I mean would you buy from a seller who has <10 feedback and one of them reads "SELLS CHEAP CHINESE KNOCK OFF FAKES, STAY AWAY."?

As for people who do that kind of stuff... I mean pretending to be military and especially veterans... they are scum.
