it will still output around 200mw

Wear Your Glasses. Unless their WL shades in that case double them up.

It reduces the power by 75-80% if I remember correctly, which is still a dangerous power level (~200mW).

It absorbs and reflects some of the Diode's output. Even the Hi-Power lens reduces power out by aprox 100mw

If I remember correctly, it starts to degrade after a while. I'll have to dig up the thread.

It's probably just tinted glass - but the drop has been measured.

From what i've seen with the "low" powered lense, it might actually put your laser at risk
since it is reflecting a good deal of light back to the laser diode

Id have to think it would too. I only used it at first to make sure the laser worked and then removed it and started using the normal lens.

Has anyone mentioned modding the lens and using a better peice of AR coated glass?

I just took the glass piece out of the training lens by unscrewing the retaining ring that holds it in place. Now i have something that maintains the look of the laser, but doesn't rob power like the standard lens. I would only use the standard lens in a very dusty environment, or where I was concerned about the laser getting splashed with liquid.
