Made this host a while back, finally got it together today. In the first pic is
the comparison shot of the original 'smaller' host followed by pics of the mod's.

I added an extension to the bottom which was brazed in place to make room
for a key switch, and added a 2 piece heatsink to the top. The battery compartment
diameter was increased to house an 18350 vs the original of a 16340.

Driver is a 3 mode boost and a-140 LD putting out 1.29W through an aixiz
3 element lens. Focus ring was knurled to match the lower portion of the
main body.

The HK-23 host also comes with a tripod mount opposite the side clicky
on the bottom..

Was a fun build, thanks for looking

Cool build. I'm not really one for key switches, but I think it's a nice touch. Definitely makes a laser seem more dangerous when you need a key to turn it on.

Those 18350's are nice. The imr one has about the same capacity of a good 16340, but can discharge at really high currents.

Awesome job:beer:

Thanks :D

Im liking these 18350's, much better than the 16340's. With the 16340's in some
older builds, the laser would stall out as the battery had a hard time breaching
1W. Depending on the diode, with the 18350 its easy to hit 1.3 - 1.4W and
the battery seems comfortable in the process..

The key switch on this is pretty much optional. You switch it to 'on' and
can remove the key. On this build its there for safety if needed.

My other builds which have an LED 'on' indicator will remain lit unless the key is
switched to off..

On this particular laser I thought it would look better without the LED..

Great work. That knurled focus adapter look great.

I had been using the AW18350's a lot but I just ordered a few of those Ultrafires for use with my buck drivers. Good to hear they work well. Do you have an idea how they stand up to their rated capacity?

Do you put led indicators in most of your builds?

I'm gonna pm you tomorrow about something I've been working on, I think you might like.

To be honest I havent tested the batteries on their own. I end up testing the
driver output and overall performance, and dont get too technical about it.

With these I needed an improvement over the 16340, but smaller than 18650..
I ended up figuring the max output for a few different drivers using these cells
and left it at that. The idea being no 'slack' from the driver and no heat from the cell..

On my larger custom hosts i've been adding an 'armed' indicator. When the key is
switched on, the LED lights up...

Looking forward to your PM
