Hey Forum! Sorry I have been so long, I had broken my camera back in March, and I had never had time to post pictures of my first 445nm build. It have used this laser excessively and it still runs perfectly fine, and boy is it impressive!:D

Specs~~~

Diode- a 1 watt 445nm diode from a C@5!0 projector
Power- <1250mw (do not have a meter, but this is a maximum guess)
Input Current- 1.25 Amperes
Driver- A Lm317 linear voltage regulator with a 1 ohm resistor set to constant current.
Power source- Two 18650 lithium ion batteries help together using nickel plated magnets ^_^

I wanted to build the host entirely from scratch, so i used metal tubing from a lawn light, two copper pipe fittings to surround the diode housing (coppers a decent heat sink), and other pieces from around the house... like a glue stick cap to fit around the end of one of the batteries... and a mint tin to hold the resistor and safety switch...

The large rectangular block in the middle of the host is an aluminum heat sink for the voltage regulator. The Lm317 is terribly inefficient, so i made sure to have a way to draw the heat away from it.

Of course, this puppy is wrapped in tttonns of electrical tape- a trademark of everything i build

To operate the laser, one must engage the safety switch to the <on> position, and then depress both momentary switches. I figured three switches was a good way from preventing accidental ignitions.

The lens can be adjusted to focus the beam to a tight convergence point for burning (AND DON'T WORRY I HAVE THREE PAIRS OF SAFETY GOGGLES, I UNDERSTAND THE DANGERS OF THE BLUE-LIGHT RADIATION).

My next build will be entirely more professional-looking, mod-werx now has began to sell custom-made heat-sinks for the Uniquefire flashlight off deal extreme, which i plan to use as a host for my next build. I will also use the microboost drive rather than using that damn clunky Lm317. (THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT EVERYONE)

AAAND of course, two self-indulged selfies to show the forums how egocentric, immature, good-looking highschool douche-bags like myself can also be nerds.

I will also be attempting a projector for a low-powered red laser, but I have to save up some work cash before i can begin to purchase pieces.

This build is great! very impressive!
Haha the tape job is phenomenal ;)

For a ghetto build, its fairly clean also

Good job! +1!!

Also, you will need to edit out the "casio projector" in your specs because of this or legality issue a while back. Or change it to C@5!0 or somethin like that.

Just a heads up ;)

LMFAO! That is GHETTO!

It works though, which is all that matters.

One comment though... those goggles may not be enough. Please get yourself a better pair if you can. You can get good goggles from survival laser, and there is an lpf discount code... i don't remember what it is, but it is out there.

:D thanks for the tip, I changed that immediately.

And thanks again for the support!

I bet people are scared if it when you show them. That's sweet

Haha very nice!! Now that is hardware hacker spirit! +1

One thing to note, you may see output power drop as the batteries are used. The LM317 has a voltage drop of 3V, so 8.4 - 3 = 5.4V. You should be fine until your batteries hit 3.6V and it is time to recharge them anyway though, so I don't expect any problems. Just don't expect to be draining every drop of juice from the cells with stable output power like with a boost driver.

I was very tempted to purchase a small voltmeter from ebay to put on the side to monitor the battery output, but i figured the design was clunky enough. :)

I am starting to build lasers using boost drivers to take advantage of their incredible efficiency, and their small design ^_^ I should have my first Cree C6 model finished in a matter of weeks. Thanks for the support!

I found that my old pair of red-blue 3D glasses (The flimsy Red lens) actually helped A LOT more then those T-rex you own (which I own too). T-rex only helps with lower powered lasers (100mW green looks like a 5mW when using those shades). Weird huh?
