DLP projectors laser diodes extracted red and green?

My question is where are the red and green diodes going from the harvested DLP projectors.
Are they going to waste or can they be used for light sources like flashlights, wall washes and such.

There are no red and green diodes...well, there's a red diode, but it's a light emitting diode and not a laser diode. It's a Luminus PT-54 red projection LED and the green is created by a spinning phosphor disk that is fluoresced by the 445 diodes. The red LED requires like 8A and serious cooling. In the projector they're on a TEC/heatsink array with a fan behind the heatsink that moves a huge amount of air.

Yep who needs them stinking red and green laser diodes I just throw mine in the trash :crackup:

Thanks guys for the replies.
Just wondered where the extra parts where going. Looking to put a 445nm diode into my "Frankensink" labby laser to use in my laser light show.

Do you have any of those red LED's? They would make a nice red light sources.

OMG!!! Look at all the 445nm diode donors. I count 28 DLP projectors, that adds up to a s##t load of laser diodes.

....If you powered up all of those diodes to 1.5W, you'd have almost exactly 1 kW of power. Wow.

Yes theyve thought about it.

Problem is, they require a a power supply thats expensive to buy "off the shelf" and they require serious cooling and optics, simply not worth it. Thier good for us tech's to fiddle around with, but thats it.

A car battery runs them just fine and I was using a motorcycle battery when I made this rig and I did this last year befor we even had the PT54's around, these are CBT-120 diodes and can handle 18 amps cont. check this out> http://laserpointerforums.com/f42/check-out-these-18-amp-diodes-42349.html

Heh, this would be a ridiculously powerful torch if someone could make one handheld.

Even if the diode was run at 10% of its rated current that would still be brighter than a Maglite.

People who have a lot of these projectors should really think about selling the red emitters, as I'm sure a multi-Watt red LED would have its uses.
