Mine came without lables as well and the beam look like a small thin line at far distances.

I owned LPMs so I was able to check my power. I was given a 1.2W at peak and 1.1W on average.

There is no polarity indications on my Spartan as well but there is a spring, so you know that end belongs to the negative point. Simply put, the negative goes in first, positive face outwards.

I can burn a match at point black well almost immediately within a second. It can burn a black trash bag well at close range. It can burn newspaper at close range. It can also pop black balloons at up to 30cm away.

Initally my Laser went dead and I thought it as a problem with a damage diode. I sent back my unit and I was later told that it was working fine. I can see you have a brand new unit, not sure if you will encounter the same problem as I do, but advise from Dragon Lasers that do at least charge and discharge your batteries like 4-5 times before use before your Spartan will achieve full potential.

Aha, so your Spartan turned out fine in the end?

Glad to hear it :)

DL have a well earned reputation.

As for the cause apparently being to do with the batteries, this is common.

Some other users reported that run-times were pretty poor with the recommended LiFePO4 CR123A's when they are brand new, and yes, they improved a lot after a few recharges.

As to the batteries issue, my advice is to have a pair of primary CR123A besides the rechargeables. This way, when you think that your Spartan malfunctions, you can immediatly find out if it is because of the rechargeables: Just switch to your primary batteries for a test.

Actually it says less than 1.25 W , ( <1.25 W) but yeah, agreed, labels do not mean anything.

If you can burn a match with 5mm wide unfocused beam, it's sure strong and not every underspec crappy laser can do that.

Woops! Typo!
