Hi, did anyone here manage to light a candle with DL 1W Spartan or other 1W laser? Is it possible at all to do it with 1W power or there is a need for much more power?

I just tried with my ~1.1 W 445 but the fuse of the candle just disappeared LOL. Only smoke was emitted but there was no fire started. There is only the white candle left

I've lit candles with mine, it usually takes around 3-15 seconds.

I can light candle with my 1.5W almost instantly. The wick must be already burned (black), otherwise it takes a lot longer. Also the focus must be perfect. 1 mm away and it will just smoke. But with correct focus it just plops and starts burning.

But the candle i tried to light was exactly like that. As I said, the wick did not catch fire, instead it got burnt!

Ive heard starting low on the wick near the wax helps since a burning candle uses wax as the fuel.

I found that my gf's scented candles lit easier (~3-5seconds) with the 1.5W.
I also got 6 packs of the gag candles that relight when you blow them out, those light in less than a second.
Dollar stores usually have them ^_^

I can with my >1w 445 some times I get the fast ~5 seconds some time really slow >20s I think there is a trick I do not know to do it fast but yes I can do it.

For me it's always focus problem. If it does not light, I move forward and backward and hunt focus. When I find the correct distance, I can lit the candle again under 1 second.

To get the focus bang on, I look for the "flare".
There will be a different light, even through laser glasses (I REALLY hope you are using them to try this)
If you have the focus perfect, there will be another, brighter light. It almost looks like the smoke is continually spontaneously igniting.
With that light, held steady for ~5 seconds with a >1W laser you should have NO problem getting a candle to light.
Try lighting the candle with a lighter first though, some of them take ~ 15 seconds even with open flame lol

I have managed to light a candle with a 1.25w but it took about 30 seconds. As Auto XX said, when you see that 'flare' you know it's about to light. I've managed to light junk mail (what else is it good for?) on fire withing seconds.

I see the "flare" with the 200mW red as well as the overspec "5mW" greens and 405s when I use a separate lens to focus.
The red MIGHT light a candle but I know it would take a while and take a stand of some sort to hold 'er steady.

With my 1.9W 445 i can light a candle in an instant!!! It doesn't really matter if its tightly focused or not for me lol I actually tried lighting a white candle from 15 feet away and the whole top just started to melt and smoke after half a second lol the wick was just messed up from all the melted wax after that. The candle is usless now :na: haha
