So a while ago I decided to build a laser into this host.. but I wanted to get it anodized to match the build, the first person came to mind was Kenom. I got him to do a splash blue/black anodization job, and I couldn't be happier with the result. Kenom is very tallented and skilled and that shows clearly in his work.

Right now where it sits, this build is almost done, but I need to work on the driver a bit, and other odds and ends that Im not yet too happy about. so this thread is just a preview so far of laser. Works and all, but I can't call it done yet.

The host takes 2X 18650s, and is set to a concervative 1W, for the size and the power, it should give me the run time I want. Ill be posting later on with more beamshots when Im fully finished those small things. :p

Made a heatsink for it:

Host itself:

Cheers.

Wow that's a pretty nice looking laser :D
I like the shape of it different than all the rest
kinda reminds me of a pineapple ;)
It must be a DDL type driver with two 18650 cells.

Thanks man, Im not using linears, its a some old flashlight buck converter at the moment (speaking of which, majority of them aren't bad, just needs a bit of output filtration sometimes).. Im working on a buck prototype (mostly getting it to a small board)... if that goes anywhere that will take place of the current driver.

I enjoy linears for thier simplicity.. but too many losses for my taste for something powered from a battery.

Wow that's a unique host.

Have you tested how long it takes to get hot? I'm sure you could get a good half hour easy.

@benmwv - most Ive ran it so far was about 5 minutes or so.. and it was in decent temperture.. I guess Ill try longer and see what happens.

@LaZeRz - Does this mean I can't hunt down and eat tasty critters anymore? :(

i wouldn't eat anodised animals if I were you GBD.

In all seriousness, Nice build and heatsink work :) But, one question remains.... When are you finishing your triple HID build????!?!?!?!?!?!

Should have posted that 10 seconds ago LaZeRz... kinda lost a few teeth.. at least I can confrim the host is very solid and the anodization job doesn't chip.

Ah right that thing... I ordered my A123 cells for the bank last month... still waiting on those. Funds kinda go to other things too (Costs outside of the hobby). So that spotlight isn't going anywhere for now.

Thats a wicked looking host :)
Probably the best I've seen. (For my time devoted to lasers that might not be much but still) lol Nice build.

Also: Thanks for the link on that idiot box thing. That is halarious. I never knew Gmod was so powerful... I love the running animations. lfmao
