Casio Projector used as a projector?

These new 445nm diodes have stirred up quite a frenzy and a number of them
have been dismantled in the pursuit of this hobby, BUT has anyone hooked
up one of these projectors to something and see how it performs as a projector?

On another note, does anyone think it would be possible to remove a diode or
two and still be able to use the projector the way it was meant to be. I
would like to buy one of these and use a diode or two in some custom
handheld units without ruining a top of the line projector, just food for
thought.

IIRC Yobresal used it as a projector for TV programs. He was not satisfied with the picture

Hmm, that doesn't sound too promising. I guess if i do end up getting a projector and i
am unimpressed with the picture quality i'm sure there will be people here interested in
the other diodes. Thanks dave

Yobresal said that the color saturation was much too low to enjoy the picture.

I never tried out the XJ-A240 I bought. As soon as it arrived, it got taken apart. No saturation? I'm glad that I just took it apart.

I have tested it and the projector will not run with any of the three diode strings disconnected. I didn't try removing a few and shorting across them to cut down the number in the string--the driver might be able to compensate if it's a true CC driver, but I sure wouldn't risk the other 6 or 7 diodes to try it out.

^ yeah, the last thing you want is the others on the string to blow cause one or two are missing :undecided:

I read a review somewhere saying the Casio was meant as a computer presentation projector, not for watching films.
Apparently even the image pixel dimensions are matched to a computer display rather than high definition video. (I haven't checked myself).

I'm pretty sure it's meant for use in classrooms and stuff.

It was not meant as a High quality Big Screen Movie home viewing device..
It was meant as a board room/class room presentation device...

I hooked my A130 up and I could watch a movie on it's screen...
The other part of the equation is............. onto what are you shining
the projected image...

On a flat white primered wall the image was fair in a dimly lit room.
It should definitely be MUCH better on a proper screen.

I didn't know you could use them as projectors??:D

I did not use mine even once!!

Did give thought to them being useful as a laser show projector host. I have one intact for sale..everything except the diodes and stock lenses. pm

This projector works great for eye-candy type stuff, but is a royal PITA to adjust the white balance for computer DVD playback, once there it's beautiful though. Power point presentations= GROSS OVERKILL!!!!!! On regular TV/DVD/or cable forget it, IT SUCKS.

Biggest downer is no real color saturation adjustment and the white color temperature is too high with 445nm. They should have used 450-460nm. The diodes test in at 441 to 447nm which is more of indigo than real blue in low power projection applications. I'm starting to hear what I had a feeling would happen, good idea in theory, bad in real world use of product.

Hmmm I hope this doesn't mean the end of laser technology in projectors. I doubt it though.

Casio's first IIRC 'green' projector is the now discontinued A-130. Many 1000's made but eventually they will be hard to find IMO. They have A-140s and newer- so while they may make newer versions VERY hard to harvest the diodes from, for now it is the least of our worries.

SEE my sig for new low prices.

Ya'll have a nice 4th--good time to scan fireworks smoke....just avoid scanning the peeps of course!!!

I bought a XJ-A140 today and the picture quality is fairly decent all things considering, but its definately not replacing my existing TV, i need its diodes :D
