To blue or not to blue 445nm is the question

Hey I have beeen spectating a while on these forums and thought it was time to take the plunge and and join up , im still getting the hang of the forum so apoligies in advance if this not in the right place ,if this is a problem directions would be sweet !!!!

ANYWAY the question ,i have wanted a blue laser for as long as i remember ,which i developed this seeing the Wicked artic laser for the first time due to its marketing and host ,to cut a long story short i have deviated and have become a sucker for the ......

Jetlasers 445nm PL-e Pro and was really hoping for insight , from personal experience /general opinions , as an engineer (in training) i can apreciate the look of it i think anyone with a set of eyes cant deny its a beauty

i have also been looking it up and trying to gain an understanding of what makes a good laser ,so that i can make an informed decision about the puchase and developing this hobbie further ,so any literature or knollege that can be share would be greatly apreciated related specifically to the item of interest or otherwise :thanks:

If you want a blue laser, I'd recommend you getting the 462nm laser from Jetlasers. This wavelength is quite a bit more blue compared to the 445nm, which is closer to purple when comparing them to eachother. For as far as I know, most direct diode lasers from Jetlasers have a fairly low divergence compared to most DIY lasers. Other than that their hosts are really nice with a temporary and clicky on/off switch.

The build quality looks sublime! espcially considering the very reasonable prices,are the components as good as as the host looks ,ie does it have a glass lens /what are the diodes like? do you have any experience of what the duty cycle is like as it is not listed ?

these are just some of the questions i havent been able to precure !! =p haha

I'm not sure what drivers or diodes they use, but I'm fairly sure their components inside the hosts are just as good as the host. Don't worry about the lenses, those are excellent as well. I'm not sure about the duty cycle, but you could always ask Gray from Jetlasers. His email adress is jetlasers@163.com.

Hello AL, it looks like you are in a state of flux over this.:crackup: I have 3 blue lasers and I really like them, two are 445nm and one 450nm, but I built them myself so I probably shouldn't comment on Jetlasers since I don't have one. Quite a few members here buy from Jetlasers so I am sure more people will comment here. Welcome to LPF.

A state of flux indeed!!!im glad a back to the future pun was averted ,had me worried for a second!!Your input is apreciated and completely relevant ,im definatly interested in building circuits and this more that qualifies,but need to develop more of a knollege before i delve into that side of things though although i really want to try my hands at making a sometime in the near future !!! Know any quality component manufacturers out of interest or compoenents you have had sucess using ?

Nice custom builds btw,i have to say that '638nm Build in sinner's "MS-SSW Stubby" (1.25W)' is pretty sweeet and your first build has got me thinking of turning my maglight into somthing a bit more interestings !!

There are many off the shelf parts ready to go with the hard parts already done for you, so building a laser can be as easy as soldering together 2 pairs of wire and assembling some parts, or it can be very complex and DIY or somewhere in between. The most important thing to do is become familiar with the different parts and learn what works together and what doesn't and why. If you have a basic knowledge of electronics you will pick it up fast.

Pi r squared that is a SWEET list you have provided only looked at haf the links but are amazingly good , do you make many from scratch yourself or any builds that you have done , no one aquires a ist like that without getting the skills on the way ,cheers for the comment on my first post a good solid welcome
