My keeper (spring mount) is hard plastic.
I think that I may see some "stuff" left in the barrel now.
Maybe there is another parting line but glue should hold.
Thanks _ HMike

I looked inside and I see a possable parting line
which you describe now.
Glue will be needed to set the spring keeper.
There must be another parting line on this housing for
original assembly but getting that apart may destroy the barrel.
HMike

I may add a 4-40 set screw to hold the keeper in place. EASY!

Yeah. I probably should have put rubber in quotation marks. It is very hard rubber ;)

Dave --
I am using set screws to reassemble the laser. Then I can update drivers / diodes easily. I now have 2 Lava v5 drivers in parallel. I'm getting 1.9 A LD current with 4 A input. My wires may not be heavy enough for this. Perhaps a different boost driver would allow for bigger wire in there. A single 18650 will say OWCH with this.

I got it done and I get 1.5 Watts for a short time. That poor 18650 cell hates driving 2 v5 driver boards!!!! I was able to make the battery condition lights work and they tell me that the cell can't go more.
Someday with a new driver and or diode, I might get more but heatsinking on this housing design is lacking for the modern diodes!
With my 3x collumator, I am able to "POP" from about 25 feet. This Spyder III now lives above spec!

It's good to see another "better" usage of this really cool host

My mod design gave up the battery indicator to get the needed heat sinking
It is still a stretch using two 16340's, but it runs cool and stable

Good job on the rebuild

+1

Dave -- I think I can improve the heatsinking a little.
Adding a bunch of goop won't do crap but make a mess.
I'm not sure what lens I have now, the old WL lens appears
damaged from disassembly.
The battery condition lights indicate low battery almost immediately
and its a new 2500 mAHr cell. It was still a fun project.
