OK so i got bored today and fired my 445 build into a peace of calcite ( don't ask me why I was just bored ) and was surprised at what I saw.
The laser left a red streak through the stone that lasted a second or 2 after cutting off the laser.
here are some pictures

Cool pictures.
Too bad your 405nm is dead.
Have you tried it with anything but the 445nm?

Close. It's fluorescence.
Phosphorescence means that it keeps glowing after the light is turned off.

The majority (but not all) calcite fluoresces red/orange under light stimulation

Usually it is UV light, but sometimes things react to light in the visible spectrum as well

There are lots more ;)

Dave,
Please post a pic of the Septarian under normal light. That's the wierdest response i've ever seen (under short wave, right?).

@OP, sorry for the thread jack....

Sorry to perpetuate the threadjack but...
Where did you get the picture from there Dave ?
Does it include a caption or anything telling of all the minerals shown ?
(Looking for a simple quick reference guide that I can take camping now that I see it.)

The Photo is from Hannes Grobe.

Here's the link to find out the name of each mineral in the photo.
