I saw that Dave made a low power 445 build in a Key Chain CR2 kit shown here:
http://laserpointerforums.com/f65/445nm-jayrob-key-chain-host-54106.html

That really made me want a low powered tiny blue pointer too!

So I swapped out my red diode/module with an A-130 445 diode in one of my Key Chain 10280 builds, and I'm as happy as can be with the result! :)

Settings are noted in the picture...

78mW's is much brighter than you would think! This thing is sweet...

The 200mAh capacity 10280 battery current draw is 296mA's.

This should give about 45 minutes of run time between charges...

See here for a basic Key Chain 10280 kit: :D

Nice! This will be perfect for the wavelength people.

At this power level, is the diode single mode (with round dot)?
And how does the brightness compare to 532nm?

The dot does look a little rounder for some reason...

Just not as 'sharp' of a line or something.

Brighter than I expected! Not sure how it compares to green without a direct sided to side comparison. I'll have to dig up a 5mW greenie and make a comparison...

I bet it looks good the first time I powered my 445 was with 230ma and it was much brighter than I expected.

the first time i powered my 445 up it was with a maxed out rckstr and it was dimmer than i expected.... then i swap the almost dead batteries:whistle:

 Yeah I saw Dave's last night and it motivated me...

I built it last night at 1:30 am (this morning actually)

But it was easy to just swap out the module and make a Custom Focus Knob for the AixiZ lens... (I already had the driver set at 275mA's with the red build)

Anyway, I think it could put out 200mW's yes. The heat is not an issue if your module is pressed into the front. (or thermal adhesive) Because the host is thick brass and a pretty good heatsink for it's size...

The concern is the supply capacity. The 10280 is only a 200mAh capacity battery. So my set up will be maybe 45 minutes between charges at best. (best guess based on 296mA current draw and not a lot of fluctuation anticipated because of the voltage being very close to the diode demand)

Great keychain 445 Jayrob!
Been wanting one in the 10280 keychain but thought the battery life might not be worth it. Was thinking of skipping 10280 & doing a 10440 but I'm just so fond a tiny builds.
How fast & hot does it heat up?
Please do let us know when you have a good idea of your run time with this. :D
I read you where guessing 30min (or less) run time for your 6x with 288mA battery draw.

~EDIT~ I'm a bit slow & you pretty much addressed my questions it seems :p

Yes at this current, a 445 diode voltage demand will be less than the battery voltage at full charge. So the V5 FlexDrive will not be using extra current to boost like it has to do with my GGW 6X Key Chain 10280 build...

I would say that this is the perfect current setting considering the diode/driver/battery for this little guy...

Well it is a pretty sweet unit you got there.

Would we not run into the same problems on any of the Li-ion batteries we use with the difference being in how quick the voltage drops which is in relation to the mah(capacity)? 18650-10280. They all have a fully charged voltage of 4.2 right? I am new to this so I could be way off base.

I always consider the diode first...

Then current setting wanted, driver needed, supply needed, then host...

With this set up, the diode voltage will not need boosting from the driver until maybe the battery is down to the time for charging. (guessing)

But in a high current setup, the diode will demand more voltage. So the driver will start using extra current to boost voltage as the battery drains and voltage is dropping in the battery...

Seems like the higher the current setting, the less efficient the driver will be.

At this low setting for this diode, I think the V5 FlexDrive will be very efficient. Not wasting much at all...

And how does the brightness compare to 532nm?

Ok it's dark now and I first compared my 78mW Key Chain 445 with a 5mW green, and there was no comparison...

So then I tried it side by side with a 10mW green and I would estimate that the 445 is about twice as bright visually...

Obviously you can't take this estimate and multiply the factors. Just like a 500mW blu-ray beam is not 5 times brighter (visually) than a 100mW blu-ray beam.

But at this low setting, 78mW's of 445nm seems to be about twice as bright (visually), as 10mW's of 532nm...

This picture shows the comparison: 78mW's/445nm vs 10mW's/532nm...
