Oh man what have I done. I built a super nice 2.8 watt laser a few months ago and it's been great. Love it to death. I had it in the car while going to lunch yesterday, when I turned a corner and yhre laser rolled off the seat and fell between the seat and door. 5 minutes later I get to the sandwich shop and started in. Remembering the laser, I walked back to the car to grab it. Thats when I noticed it was on! It was also in the process of setting a stray potato chip on fire. The laser was very hot and smelt of burnt motor oil. I let it cool off but noticed power seemed way way down! :wtf: It's still is lasering, but seems way less bright!.

The lens seemed dirty so after I got home I cleaned it hoping that was the issue. No go! I tried another lens, and no dice! Is this type of damage possible? I'm surprized as it has a really large heatsink. Do I need another module?

Try it after a few hours, and then if not you probably need to replace the diode.
