Re: FS: Blue Hotlight Kit

Are there still any hosts available? I need another one or so :p

I had to order some more aluminum. I've got like 15 hosts left i think. Once the aluminum gets here i'm gonna make up the heatsinks and will make them available again.

Re: FS: Blue Hotlight Kit

I don't have a knurling tool....i've been meaning to get one. They cost like $30.

okay i just got one off fleebay for $12, it just cuts straight knurls like the current aixiz lens nuts. we'll see how it works.

Re: FS: Blue Hotlight Kit

I have never seen an EZ focus adapter that NEEDS knurling, as being much larger than the AixiZ module part they replace, they turn with ease even with tefon tapeon the threads.

But I guess if you like that look and are willing to pay extra -then go for it. IMO they look slicker w/o.

MOh is a great asset to LPF and does nice work.

Re: FS: Blue Hotlight Kit

you got 2 more just ordered by me :D also, just curious, idk what you guys all use. are there cheap boost drivers available anywhere in the us? :p (like, i only need 3v or whatever, to run a 405nm, even though its 4.5v?) the first build i did was a lm317 driver, i havent worked with anything else. :p

Re: FS: Blue Hotlight Kit

The NJG-18 led drivers work well and I believe both DTR and Qumefox sell them from the us. It is constant voltage, not constant current, but I have a NJG in one of my hotlights running a SF-AW210 @ 200ma without problems. :yh: Ill have to post some pics of that build at some point....

edit: Dr Lava is supposed to be bringing the flexdrives back in stock soon as well. Those are in the US.

Re: FS: Blue Hotlight Kit

Ok, here's some info and pics of my hotlight I mentioned above^^^^

I bought some NJG-18 LED drivers as a curiosity, mainly because of the shortage of flexdrives that has plagued us as of late. I never really used one, and everyone else here were using them on 445 diodes. I wanted to see if they could be used for something smaller, such as a red or a low-power 405. So, I had this hotlight kit laying around. I've seen the methods of coins and such to mount a driver, but I like things clean. So, I planned on making a heatsink extension for the existing hotlight to mount the NJG in contact with the host's positive contact. Here we go....

Stock Hotlight heatsink bored out on tailside

While I was on the lathe, I cleaned up the front-side face with a nice high-speed cut/polish

I turned out this piece to press into the modified hotlight sink. It also has a groove cut into the tail for the NJG-18

2 pieces pressed together

Driver pressed in tail of sink. I set the output at 200 ma with my test load. This setup makes a nice, self-contained drop-in module :)

A somewhat decent beamshot. :eg:

Ok, so I realize that most people that buy this kit do not have a lathe, otherwise they wouldn't buy a kit. I just bought the hotlight kit to see what the fuss was about (it is a nice host, by the way). I just wanted to share how I mounted a Njg-18 in a hotlight, as well as show that the driver will work on lower power builds. I power the driver with one Li-Ion (4.2vdc). It also surprisingly works well with 3 aaa alkalines (4.5vdc) in the stock battery holder.

I like these hotlight kits. They are simple and easily modifiable. I'm sure alot of people are sad to see them go. Grab the last few while they're available! There were 3 left the last time i checked.

Sorry to Moh for sidetracking the thread with this review/tutorial.

Thank you for the kind words. :yh: I am quite happy with how it turned out. Wasn't quite sure of the driver, but it runs like a champ:D

Cheers!

Failed. I suck balls with a knurling tool, so I probably won't be doing that...

I'm thinking about hitting up Pontiac for some aluminum disks and machining them to focus adapters. He's got access to CNC equipment and can do the "hard" part for me. Guess it all depends on his price :D

They would probably be around $5ea. for a simple disk that's threaded for an aixiz module and then shined to a mirror finish. like the picture i posted above.
