Oxo, I don't want to discourage you from experimenting, but it really isn't a good idea to go probing around in a circuit that you don't understand, with anything other than a high-impedance meter/probe. In this case that may not have caused any problem, but unless you're willing to risk having to replace the equipment - or worse - I'd suggest you not do that.

Likewise, the chances of repair are slim if you can't tell whether there's still an inappropriate solder bridge somewhere on the board... that would need to be determined before any diagnosis/repair is even worth trying. If you have access to a low-power microscope, that can help you to see fine detail; I use a dissecting scope to solder my surface-mount boards. Alternatively, you could use your camera on a small tripod as a microscope.

See if you can get it definitely cleaned up first; then do like Kernelpanic suggested to measure current draw; and take it from there.

hey drlava what are the requirements to get the ~700ma range from the v3 drivers. do i need the whole 3.6v or can i use a 3v 2a power supply? also wondering if you know if a TEC acts like a diode with voltage? i.e. does it only use the voltage it needs or does it absorb all the voltage you give it?

Hi, for the 700mA max, the driver needs to have an output voltage less or equal to the input voltage. Yes a TEC is really just a series of diodes so at some point it acts like a diode but the curve is not as sharp as a laser diode.

it changes the max output current to ~500ma. if your using a 3.6v batt it changes it to ~700ma.

hello guys, i am little bit curious about one think.. everywhere i can read that if i want to set desired mA on driver i need to use dummy load.. i can understand that it could be dangerous not use a dummy by rckstr driver as there is really wide current range in mA's, but what about V3???? if low range V3 is 91-151 mA, then is there a dummy necessary??? i think that even if 151ma is not entirely safe for continuous running that for few second till you turn it down to get your desired output could be fine, or am i wrong???

oh and finaly one more question.. if i will set desired current for example with cr2 battery and then i will use 2x1,5 or any other type will be there still same current..??? i think that answer is YES, but i just want make sure and hear it from you guys... from real expert

Well, that's not really a good question.  Current, measured in amps, is variable - depending upon Voltage and Resistance.

See Ohm's Law.

If you keep the driver on the low range and the pot is at its midpoint then the driver will be about 108-118mA (variations in the pot resistance from part to part)  So, if you are comfortable with this, sure it's a good starting point and you can adjust the pot (with it off) to your desired light output value say, 90 or 100mW.

If you set the current with a CR2 and then go to 2x 1.5 or a li-ion 3.6V, the current will remain the same within about +/-1% so yes you'll be fine.

hello, DR. LAVA what is the best ''power supply'' for BR with your V3 driver????

1, CR battery
2, 2 x aaa
3, 3 x aaa ??????

could you clear that up for me please???

everywhere i can see using 2xaaa with BR+V3 in pen style host, but is there any difference if i will use 3xaaa???
