Re: FS: New Pen Host Kits! All Parts Included - Nice!

Jay i got a question, how can i Integrate the Front cover of the Pen host to the Focusing lens of the Aixiz, because if i use a glue such as mightybond i know it will damage the lens. do you have a custom spacer that we can use to do this?

You mean like RA_Pierce did?

I'm in the process of building like 5-7 pen's. What I'm doing is:

Making sure the aixiz module is far enough back so that the lens (without focus ring and focused to infinity) is just barely past the end of the host.

Then, slide the front cover over the lens to make sure you have your module back far enough. In most cases, either the front cover or the inside of the host needs to be modified so that the cover can move forward and backwards a little bit with the lens. The cover was originally designed to be pressed into the front, therefore not moving once in place. So you'll just need to do some sanding.

Then take the lens out and super glue it to the front cover. You mentioned damaging the lens? It shouldn't hurt if you put the glue around the plastic parts of the lens assembly (not on the actual lens itself of course).

I've been working on getting these done, but I've been really busy with school. But this is the plan I'm going by.

Yeah... I've never even tried to fit the front piece...

Just use an AixiZ focus ring, and as a dust cap, the silicone tail caps from DX.

Or just a lens without the AixiZ focus ring, and have a fixed focus build with the cap on there.

Sounds like an interesting modification that you are working on Bryce. Perhaps you could show pictures and stuff when you get it working... :)

Yea I'll get some pics when I get these going. They may even be in the BST section

But I'd be using a middle man for sure. Someone to verify my power readings and examine my building skills.

Right now, school is kicking my "astronaut", and I gotta save up some more for parts for these.

Not a threadjack attempt...

I'm not sure what you mean.
Are you talking about the inside of the pen tube?
If so, no. The aperture cap was modified so it wasn't so tight of a fit.
The design for the blu-rays is different though. My red builds are different because the module and aperture cap had to be assembled just right since the focal lengths and the positions of the lenses are different for red and violet. If you'd like I can take a picture of one of my violet modules.
The length of each component is very important to consider if you want to have the button in the right place and the aperture cap is flush when the laser is focused to infinity.

Those are some clean looking builds... :gj:

I've always just used the AixiZ focus ring. Which works too...

Yea that's what I was talking about. Either the cap or the inside of the tube would have to be modified so it isn't so tight. A pic would be cool if you don't mind.

Yes, and red diodes are already case negative. (diode case pin is the negaitive)

So with a blu-ray, you can just solder the diode case pin to the negative pin...

what about this tutorial?i mean to solder the - wire of the driver's to the diode's case pin and then the driver's + wire to the button and then a wire ftom the switchto the spring.if you have better or easier way let me know.

That tutorial is for a rkcstr driver...

In that set up, you would need 2 X 10440 batteries for your supply in a red build.

For a blu-ray, better is to go with a FlexDrive. In Dr. Lava's documentation, he has some good diagrams of different connection configurations that would work. Take a look at the drawings:

That tutorial you linked from rubberband looks like a nice tutorial for a rkcstr pen build...

Just know that that driver/battery combination will not give much run time for a blu-ray build. Great for red though...

Re: FS: New Pen Host Kits! All Parts Included - Nice!

Here's a picture of my first "experimental prototype" of these. It is a 110mW PHR with Aixiz glass. It's sloppy, but this was the first try-out.
The driver is inside the module (flex V4).
I dont have a loose red module on hand, but the basic idea is the same... the main difference is in the brass heat-sink used and the way the lens is installed.
