heh. No problem. My main machines are an iMac and MacBook Pro both which have slot loading drives. I just popped it in my Win 7 HTPC and copied the files to my iMac. Everything's working great in Win 7 running in VMware.

Re: J.BAUER Electronics LaserBee 2.5 Watt USB only + Data Logging $129.99.. In Stock

On June 30 2011 on post #373 of this Thread I had mentioned
that the price of the LaserBee 2.5W USB LPM would increase at
the beginning of July... The increase was to be ~$15.00 per unit.

I held it off as long as we could but today we were forced to
increase the price of the LaserBee 2.5W USB LPM. We were
able to shave a little off the expected increase of $15.00 and
only added a $10.00 increase to the selling price...

Thanks Laserbee, got mine and it works. Looks like you went cheapish on the TEC(guessing around 10-15usd?) but you bought a more expensive-ish (2usd +) heat-sink. Tis fun to speculate. :) Nice product you built there. Great job! Would post a nice review but you appear to already have plenty ;)

Thanks... Glad you received it...

The choice of the "cheapish" TEC as you put it was explained in
the 1st Post of this Thread... (Paragraph 11)

BTW... More expensive than what...

The Heatsinks we use on the LaserBee 2.5W USB Sensor's head
is the same heatsink we use on all the LaserBee products....

These were tested to be mechanically stable when placed on
a surface (without falling over) and has enough thermal mass
and surface area to radiate enough of the heat transferred to it
by any Laser beam on the Sensor to maintain a stable reading...

Re: J.BAUER Electronics LaserBee 2.5 Watt USB only + Data Logging $129.99.. In Stock

... just my opinion, but the USB model LaserBee is still a great value even with the increase. Considering that USB is standard and the drivers are stable, considering that the thermal response curve is adequate for all but the most demanding home experiments, considering that the Windows software is INCLUDED for the price... It's a bargain.

But the real joy of using the LaserBee is that it just works nicely. There is a lot of solid engineering and software work in building something like this and then purchasing the rights to the Windows software interface... there is some serious cash outlay when building a product, stocking, selling, and supporting.

Even in jest, I could not say anything negative about this product. It would not be this inexpensive if I had designed, manufactured, calibrated, and sold it. I suspect this is the owner's way of giving back to the community and the hobby he loves.

Thanks for laying that out Ray...I'm glad you can see the
actual costs involved to put out a decent product and
customer support for it..

Yeah the price of the LaserBee 2.5W USB is quite low on LPF..
We sell the same thing on eBay at an already discounted eBay
price of $169.99 starting bid and $189.99 But It Now and the
shipping on eBay is higher at $36.99 to the USA...

So the new price is

$129.99Cnd plus $18.15Cnd S/H ? Or is that the old price prior to the increase?

And are there any other discounts for the other models of laserbee LPM?

The updated price can be seen in the 1st Post of this
Thread. The old price can be seen in the Title of the
2nd Post of this Thread.

This is the Only LaserBee that is discounted for LPF
Members at this time.
You can find some discounted LaserBee products on
eBay and the Retail priced LaserBee products on our
Website... (some links are in my Sig)

Re: J.BAUER Electronics LaserBee 2.5 Watt USB only + Data Logging $129.99.. In Stock

@Jerry

I finally remembered what it was that bugged me about the directions. I was showing the lpm to DarkSide and we couldn't figure out why it was not working. Everything installed fine, although a restart was needed for the drivers to work.

When running it, kept getting the no signal message. Anyway, in the program itself the com port has to be selected.

Finally figured that out though. I suspect you'll have a new customer soon;)

Hmmm....

In the Soft Install Inst Instructions_W7_USB.pdf file found
on the supplied CD...
Instruction #5 reads "Re-Boot your computer after your USB
Drivers are installed"

Instruction #7 reads "This is the Com Port the LaserBee Interface
needs to use to Communicate with the LaserBee LPM"

We tried to make sure we didn't miss anything. We could still
have missed some detail that hasn't surfaced yet.
Thanks for the heads up just the same...;)

^^^Might make more sense to just let people download the files from your website, with specific instructions/files for specific model. IIRC the files you included were for other models too.

The downloading part is just my own thought/suggestion/pet peeve - I don't install optical drives on my computers anymore, so had to actually copy it over to a flash drive at work:eek:

Also curious - how much would it be to get the lpm recalibrated/checked, how long is the calibration good for. I'm just curious for the future.
