A Spec-20 is a spectrophotometer here is an explanation of how
it works...

How does a spectronic -20 work? - Yahoo! Answers

It measures the Intensity of light before and after traveling through
a "sample"... :thinking:

Yea i know, ive used them before. The LPM reading would basically be the transmittance factor.

I see no reason that you could not use it for that purpose as
long as all of the Laser beam transmitted through the sample
falls onto the Thermopile sensor and is in the detection range
of the sensor.

Question: How do I measure a focusable laser? with the beam focused at the sensor or unfocused?

Never point a laser at the sensor with the laser focused! It will ruin the sensor. Make sure beam diameter is always bigger then 3mm wide
