Honestly, I don't think that even trying to "protect" yourself would be necessary. Igor is an honest person and IF you don't get your laser regardless of having not opened a paypal dispute one way or another he WILL get it squared away.

Opening a dispute IMPLIES that you do not trust the seller to follow through with his product or if it doesn't to refund voluntarily the money you payed them. Your just opening a can of worms and telling them that you do not trust them and to hell with them. They get defensive and are less inclined to work with you when and if things don't go the way that is planned (laser gets lost in the mail or whatever)

Igor IS trustworthy. He's a business owner and understands the importance of following through with customers. Iv'e seen it time and again. So just understand that it's your choice. You can file the paypal dispute. however I would not and leave to Igor to work things out with me when/if things don't work out.

I completely understand your point Kenom... I suggested it more because of the way PP works. Igor is in Slovenia. PP is in the USA. Igor is not allowed to make withdraws on his PP account via his bank account... it is for this reason that he uses this account to make other purchases via a PP debit card.

I know that Igor would happily take care of anyone and everyone once his issues are solved. But there are cases I can think of where he may not be available, or his PP account gets locked for a very extended amount of time.

In this case, I would bet many people would consider canceling their order and re-ordering once Igor is back up and running. Perhaps months and months from now - we just don't know. There is no other info to go on...

Mine was just a suggestion, and because Igor can not use his PP account for cash purposes it should not hurt or disrupt his cash flow.

My post is also important because many people are at the limit for getting PayPal help. It's now or never. Again, reserving your money in his account does NOT hurt him or his account. It simply gives him time to get it together and respond and/or ship to UK customers.

I think the point is, we are totally lost and don't know what's going on, what has gone wrong..... I think for a customer, we should have the right to know at least know what the problem is, e.g. whether the lasers are lost, or haven't been sent that......

Personally don't think keeping silent and wait would get the problem solve.

What I hope is, could some one who can still reach Igor, would you mind to help ppl here finding out what's going on? It doesn't need to be a huge explaination, something brief like "lasers are lost, need to be re-send" or " too busy to send the lasers at the moment" etc. I think this will keep most ppl waiting for the lasers happy :)

I had a similar problem with my Igor 6X. I was getting lots of speckles in the output beam when I somewhat defocused it. I took a close look at the diode window and the lens, and the window had what looked like a smudge on it. Anyway, I took a medical (or lint-free) swab (NOT a Q-Tip), dipped in some 99% isopropyl alcohol (I use the stuff to clean the rollers and glass on my scanner) and cleaned the diode window and lens. Then I gently used some canned air to dry out the area around the diode and the lens, then put it back together. Now the beam looks really good, even spread out. Igor must have not cleaned the diode window very well before he assembled the lasers.

That's the thing, they're already sent. They had to be resent for some reason (I currently am having a difficult time reaching Igor as well), and they SHOULD be in your hands VERY soon!

Now that really kills me. This is so NOT typical of Igor...

... and his "immaculately assembled" lasers is one of the main reasons for owning one...

I don't know what to say guys, this waiting is really killing me...
But I'll continue to trust Igor at this point, as I know very well how things work in eastern Europe... and the mafia... etc etc...
I don't even think of starting a paypal dispute as I don't accept anything else but the 'happy end' at this point... But that's just me.

If IgorT's PP account receives multiple dispute filings, PP will "limit" the account.  That means that he will NOT be able to withdraw from the account in ANY way.  It doesn't just put a "reserve" on the disputed funds.  It locks down EVERYTHING.  He won't be able to pay for anything, for any reason.  THAT INCLUDES POSTAGE AND PARTS!

You figure out what "hurt" is involved with that.

You also must realize that Igor is only selling these lasers to gain funds for the Lens Project. If you were to withdraw now, he'd have to make a whole new wave for the lasers that were returned to him.

Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

Here's my take on the Igor situation.

I have been communicating with Igor for a while, but have not for the last week or so. Igor did me a great favor when he built my 6X Blu-Ray and I am very grateful for it. I think Igor is honest and trustworthy and is willing to bend over backwards to help a customer. However he is still young, and has much learning to do in regard to running a business. Building lasers is a business.

What seem to have happened is that Igor went from making lasers is small quantities to suddenly getting very large orders for lasers. This may be called successful by some people, but I have seen business fail because they grew too big too fast. Igor wanted to get all the orders out. In normal times, he did fine, but with such a large number of orders in queue, he underestimated the efforts needed to do the work and to ship. In this frenzy, he made mistakes, and probably forgot to do simple things, like clean the laser windows (I can only speak for my laser). However, the laser he sent me looks like it is built very well, so I am only speculating here. Anyway, Igor got swamped and the fact that he got most of them out is a great complement to him. Igor has had a learning experience from this.

At the same time, his accountant went missing. I was always taught that when an accountant goes missing, money is missing too, but you might not know that yet. Taxes must be paid, and when the accountant has all your records, this can present a problem. Igor has learned much about the business world from this experience. I just hope he can recover from it.

My experience with Igor has been positive. Not smooth, but positive. I got a laser that I didn't know I could get. I hope to continue a business relationship with Igor in the future.

I have no recommendations to anyone as to what to do regarding the laser they ordered that they didn't get. It is my belief that Igor will try his best to satisfy everyone who ordered from him. It took longer that I felt it should to get what I ordered, but in the end, I am very happy with what I got.

I would also say that I would not expect any communications with Igor before April 1 (or somewhat after). If his taxes are due by then, he has his hands full in getting the tax mafia what they want. To me, that would be my highest priority.

Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

When I read about Igor I appreciated him a lot. I still appreciate his good work.

I started waiting for a BluRay 2 months ago and still waiting. I hope he can sort out every problem he has and make us all happy. ;)
However I must admit that I lost my excitement about that BluRay.
Everybody who has a IgorT BluRay have took my expectations higher and higher.
Unfortunately this long wait killed all my expectations and all I wanted now is to get a working BluRay in specs. :-?

hope this kind of delay will never repeat again neither for us nor for Igor. ::)

My advise for all is to wait for one more week to get any news from Igor.
I'll send him an email (almost my first email for 2 months) after the end of next week :)

Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

Patience young ones... Igor's trouble with the tax man is the only thing he should be worrying about now.

He is an honest and dedicated professional who is in a shitload of trouble right now. He will not renege on his commitments, but his entire career and company are on the line right now. Lesser men would just walk away from this whole mess. He will not. He just needs to get as much tax info as he can recover before his March 31 deadline. That means begging dozens of suppliers for copies of invoices and expenses and receipts. It is an onerous, stressful process that requires full days and lots of adrenalin. I have been there, I know.

After the deadline he will be back, his fate sealed one way or another.

Please do not bugger his PayPal account or we will all suffer. I know it's hard to trust but these are exceptional circumstances.

At least wait until April when he will finally have time to contact us all.

Please.

Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

Igor's priority is his tax problem. If people start filling paypal disputes it would divert some of his attention to paypal as now paypal would start peppering him with e-mails and questions about all this money which he MUST answer as well. So he would have to deal with two money grabbing orginizations, 1: paypal which all his laser finance is from, 2: the government which all his personal and business assets are on the line. So just leave him along for now and just wait patiently.
