There is either some foreign substance on the diode window or the crystal itself is showing damage.

I have seen this pattern many times as I've tortured a diode to death.

Peace,

I used an air compressor/blower (the bulb, you know what I'm talking about I'm sure) to try to get any substance off of the window I could not really see anything bad on the window, or anything at all.

You can use a light source (a small flashlight) to "bounce" off of the window to see any"rough" spots on the glass.  If the glass is smooth and clean, your crystal has some damage.  It may work like that forever.  It may fail tomorrow.  It depends on if the damaged area continues to grow or not.

If it is a window issue, (not saying that even if it's possible, that I'd do it) could I make the 6x diode an open can? I'm not going to bother doing that, especially with a 6x, but I've always wondered if it was possible to have a working open can BR.

People have run violet diodes open can. However, I know that the can is sealed with some sort of gas inside. I do not pretend to know (or remember) what it is, but if the makers seal the can, I imagine they do it for a purpose.

I have run PS3, PHR's and 6x's open can... I have heard of the inert gas thing, but cant find anything on it. Are there any links on this topic?

Could be that there inside is some gas or maybe vacuum, and if you try to open it you will destroy it.
You never know until you try, but maybe here is somebody who knows.... :-/

All I can find describes the diodes as "hermetically sealed." The gas inclusion is simply dry nitrogen. Both the sealing and the gas is apparently simply to limit contamination

To find out how many LPF members are still waiting for IgorT BluRay just follow the link below.
PM me or post to thread below to let us know if you've received your laser or still waiting for.

[move]http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1236667117[/move]

Of 56 laser, only 11 of them are in the list.
I am sure LPF members that received their BluRays don't care about that list anymore  ;D

Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

I got my laser today!
(Actually, it arrived on Friday, but at that time I was cruising at an easy 30,000 feet towards Boston for a long weekend so I got to pick it up today.) ::)

I opted for the CR123 Side-Button Host, and it came labeled 175 mW, hi. wl.
In the package came 2 TrustFire 16340 880mAh 3.6 Li-ion Rechargeable batteries with PCB, 4 glow-in-the-dark lens protection caps, a dust-cap cover, a mini tripod, a grip for the laser to hold it on any standard tripod, and the camouflage. ;D
The laser weighs 3 oz. with a battery in and is pretty evenly balanced. The battery just slid right in and was a perfect fit - no hassle at all.

It shines with a beautiful circular beam; I'll try to post some pictures later.
After just a preliminary session playing around with it (a couple matches, highlighter-laced water, dark slightly-dusty basement), I am already very pleased with it.

During the ordering process, Igor was very helpful and informative, letting me know anything I wanted to know, and even taking a few extra pictures for me! Once the order was in, it did take quite some time for the laser to arrive (I'm Batch 2), but I wasn't very concerned and just left Igor alone and checked this thread about weekly to track the saga. :-/
To Igor: You do great work and deserve the best! I hope things all work out for you in your business.

Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

I posted in Murrat's thread, but thought it would be wrong not to post this info here as well...

This is not posted to anger anyone, nor to make life harder for Igor.  There is a very real possibility at this point that many people will not receive their lasers due to some issue Igor is facing.

Please remember:
You have 45 days (and sometimes 60) to start a dispute with PayPal over any item you paid for but did not receive.

It doesn't hurt you, or Igor, or anyone else to start this dispute.  It's done online in seconds and simply reserves the money you sent Igor's PayPal account while things get sorted out!  Igor will have a chance to respond, and if he can't, the money will simply move back to your account.

This isn't meant to harm Igor, but if something has happened it would be best to reserve your funds now rather than wait and have PayPal tell you you are out of luck.  If PayPal decides it is best to refund your money, it is a few simple clicks to resend the money to Igor once the laser shows up.

I do not think this is disrespectful or damaging.  Igor would certainly understand... and I honestly do not believe anyone would NOT send Igor the PayPal funds again (assuming their laser showed up...).

Sorry to be the one to post this info - but let's face it, I've already received my laser, and subsequently REsold my laser to another member.  Then I REshipped the laser.  And it has already arrived to it's new owner!

Something has gone bad here, and while everyone is pulling for Igor they must also look out for themselves in the process.  Protect your money, start the dispute with PayPal.  If it's been over 45 days, ask for an extension due to the 'custom' nature of the product you ordered.

Best of luck, and I hope this post is shown as a simple way of solving the missing laser issue.  The only thing worse than not getting your laser, is not getting your laser and your money.  Protect yourself and should your laser show, simply cancel the dispute or resend the funds.
