Re: FS: >110mW & >150mW Blu-Rays - available

It will be drawing very little current at a high voltage, cos it transforms the voltage vs. current ratio.... It's a switching transformer.

You really don't need a 3A fuse! The smallest fuse you can find will do.

Otherwise i started testing the new writer diodes. At 150mA the first one is already doing 202mW @20°C after the custom lens!

Now i need to test how long it can survive this.

3 amp was the smallest fuse I have, I wired it in just to see if it works ok and it does ;D but I will get a 1 amp fuse for it before I start charging battries with it.

202mW at 150mA thats brillant , I'm sure with all your heatsinking around it these diodes won't get hot and should easily survive this ;D who knows maybe they could take more ;)

Re: FS: >110mW & >150mW Blu-Rays - available

Oh, i wish the problem was heat. Heat is easy to take care of. But at a constant current heat actually reduces the strain on the diode by reducing the power. And it's the power that the diode needs to be capable of handling...

In reality, a hot diode can survive more current than a cold diode, simply because the power is lower when hot. A cold diode can die at that same current instantly.

I don't want to push this diode any further. 200mW is plenty. I had to pay $350 just a couple of months ago, to force 190mW through a plastic lens. With a glass lens the same power can be achieved MUCH more safelly!

I'm letting this one run for several days continuously, to see how it handles it. I'll check it for degradation daily... I want a reliable power, where the diode can survive a long time even with heavy use.... ;)

So if these new diodes can survive 150mA for a long time (several days continuously), then we're all set. It can be pushed much further. It can be pushed to produce >200mW through a plastic lens. But from what i've seen, it doesn't really like this all that much.

Good point I'd rather have 200mW for a long time then 250mW for a couple of weeks ;)

Blu rays can burn white things too. And Scopeguy's latest laser has 164mW....

Aah, this means that I'll need the new lens #2 to get his output power, but he will surely get the lens too, so.... no hope! :-/ (till to the next laser....) ;)[/quote]

Hey guys, don't feel bad, I got a 97 mW blu-ray to light a black match at 6.5 feet as well. Focus and steadiness are big on these burning tests!

I don't feel bad mate I feel excited, the potential of Igor's new lasers is amazing I can't wait!!!!

I think the only reason I would feel bad is if the post office lose my package :'(.

I must say though scopeguy some of the results your posting for lighting things at a distance are very impressive  I had no idea these lasers could light things from such distances.

I guess you just have to focus it well and have hands like a surgon...or a good tripod ;D

Ha ha, it was just for joking, Scopeguy, I'm just very glad for Igor, a lot of people really appreciate his work....
While I'm writing these words I have in front of me the blue and the red lasers he has made for me.... :D, it' a pleasure just looking at them....

Igor has written to me today, he's really quite busy, (his main job and lots of projects in lasers too), and we think he will soon be testing the new "12X" diode, as well and he's making several 4X lasers and other lasers, not to mention the lens work. I am surely not alone on this, Igor you GO man, what a guy!!!!

New 12x could be intresting espically if they actually turn out to be 12x. (Lol you could set some new records for match lighting distances with them scopeguy :D)

Didn't know you had ordered more, how many this time ;D

I second that keep going Igor just like one of those duracell bunnies ;)
