Oh man.. Was this the 190mA one? Looks like this really is too much for them. And the reflections from wrong lenses make it worse.
I already killed two at 190mA.. But the two 170mA ones are doing fine for now - but i'm almost scared to say this...
I really hope this turns out to be a safe current tho.

Yes. This one was running with 190mA input. It also had the aiXiz acrylic lens. I have had them run without dieing (knock on wood) with 175-180mA input. I have at least three of these built. Two have aiXiz acrylic. One has a Merideth glass. Two of them are out in the community now. One is here in my drawer ;) We may have found a "conditionally safe" limit.

Now let's see what the new lenses will do :)

Peace,
dave

Chris: I forgot to ask this before..

How do you know if you lost a diode due to reflections or something else?

Otherwise, yeah, 650nm coatings look blue if you reflect light off them - they reflect blue light.
Some only have a hint of blue in them, others can be almost dark blue, even when you look through them.

Is that what that lens was like?

Ok, it was just the idea that you could have a peak of heat in the first few seconds that could have killed the diodes at a high currents, but by looking at Igor's comment that isn't the problem.

Well, at first i found it hard to imagine such a peak, but the more i think about it... The more i would like to see a graph of the die temperature.. :D

The temperature at the die is always a little higher, than in the rest of the module, but i don't know if it first shoots up and drops a little, or if it just steadily climbs.

Still, even if it does peak, i doubt this peak would be higher, than the heat, that developes over time.

If 180mA should turn out to be a reasonably safe limit, that would be great! Some rare diodes can do 180mW at this current, even after a plastic lens!

I still don't know if i should feel sorry to have lowered the current in my freak or not.. ;)
I guess i should really hook up the broken leg diode to 180 and let it run. What else could i use it for.. ::)

Re: FS: >90mW Blu-Rays, two models: OPEN

I'm just glad you understand my theorie; first a very fast peak until the heatsink starts to dissipate the heat an then a slower peak with the heatsink "acctivated"

Anyway, I am going to my warm bed now because I have to get up early in the morning.

Greetz,
Tim Kloppenburg

P.s. when I got time I will write a nice review about Igor's laser with a couple of nice pics :)

Well, let's hope it does arrive... I don't know if Saturday counts in the 4-6 days or not, but that's why i shipped to Hugh just in case.

Your package is wrapped in lots of tape, so if he has to hold it for you for 9 days, he will have a tough time opening it without you knowing.

Re: FS: >90mW Blu-Rays, two models: OPEN

You also have a sword, if i'm not mistaken...  ;)

Anyway, Hugh's package is in a tiny envelope, glued shut. Your package is in a slightly larger envelope, folded in half and taped from all sides, so it's actually smaller, but fatter.

Also, Hugh's package says "VI" on the back, your package says "CB" on the back.

It would be hard to confuse them..

Re: FS: >90mW Blu-Rays, two models: OPEN

Oh man... And i asked about the delivery times at two different post offices! :(

Hugh, please don't mollest Stan's package.. I selected two with identical powers for your two lasers.

EDIT: I tried tracking on AusPost page again, but it doesn't show international shipments.. And worktrace isn't updating... :(

Molest Stan's package? Why would I do that? *gets out his special lens-sabotaging sandpaper* :D

Re: FS: >90mW Blu-Rays, two models: OPEN

Well...

Please? The contents are identical (except for a birthday card  ::)). Yours is marked VI on the back. His is folded over and taped and says CB.
I know i would prefer to open my own package by myself. And he is worrying to much when you're joking..

Anyway, i made your driverz too, and i'll send them today. I need to write down the currents too...
You asked for blu ray, blu ray and red, right? Or was it red, red and blu ray?  ::) Damn..
Can you please remind me? I can't go digging through 90 emails..
I can still change the currentz if i set them wrong... I would only have to change one in the worst case.. :)

EDIT: Found your driver request info.. Never mind.. Oh, and i made adjustable micro ones.. ;)

Sweetness. Still hasn't arrived today, which means it'll be on Monday or later.... post office doesn't work on Sundays...
